QUALIFICATION:

• Degree in Buying is preferable
• Diploma in Procurement is preferable
• A minimum of 3-5 years’ retail buying experience.
• Extensive experience in vendor negotiation and interaction
• Must have highly effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Must have experience in analyzing data to draw relevant conclusions which have positive effects on the business
• Must have the ability to spot trends and opportunities to generate profits and enhance brand awareness
• Must have the ability to make decisions to achieve desired results.
• Excellent follow through skills with a demonstrated sense of urgency
• Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office, including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and AI.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Homeware Buyer will occupy this exciting role at Michael Murphy Home Furnishings.
Responsible for developing a range of Homewares to include Rugs, Lighting, Mirrors, Wall Art, Clocks, Bedding, Throws, Cushions, Candles and more. The Homeware Buyer will have a positive ‘can do’ attitude that is capable of working to tight deadlines. They should be customer focused, a logical thinker and a confident clear communicator.
The Homeware Buyer ensures that current and future sales, margin and stock targets are within budget and they will need to work under pressure in a fast paced environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Responsible for our Own Buy Strategy where we work directly with manufactures.
• Plan and execute Buyer KPI’s and ensure adequate tracking and controls are in place to meet budgets and targets.
• Build upon current supplier relationships and continually source new supply base to maximize new opportunities.
• Carrying out comparative shopping to develop and maintain knowledge of the current competitive market place.
• Manage and ensure that the Buying critical path is achieved.
• Review the market place, work with design, QA and supplier base to develop new products that meet anticipated demand of customer base.
• Report and effectively communicates all key information to senior management.
• Stock management - responsible for the Buy Plan by reordering product, determining order quantities and frequency using our software systems.
• Order management – track and manage all orders that are in process.
• Conduct vendor negotiations that best supports the buying strategy.
• Evaluate and adjust planning strategies based on changing market conditions.
• Collaborate with Sales Team and VM Team to provide feedback to senior management with growth opportunities.
• Problem solve delivery issues such as delays, short orders, material discrepancies, and quality issues.
