Position OverviewWe are currently hiring for a Horticulturalist Lead to oversee and enhance the maintenance and care of outdoor spaces within our Maintenance Division. This role is ideal for an experienced professional who is passionate about plants, has a keen eye for detail, and thrives on sharing their expertise with team members.
The Horticulturalist Lead will collaborate with clients, managers, and team members to ensure exceptional care of gardens, shrubs, trees, and other landscape elements. This person will also guide and mentor junior team members to help them grow in their knowledge and skills.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee and implement horticultural maintenance projects across residential and commercial sites.
- Managing 1-3 employees at a given time.
- Monitor plant health, perform pruning, fertilizing, and pest/disease control.
- Identify plants, weeds, and potential landscape issues while providing solutions.
- Train and mentor team members on plant care and horticultural practices.
- Create and maintain seasonal planting schedules and garden designs.
- Operate and maintain tools and equipment for horticultural tasks.
- Applying pesticides and fertilizers.
- Communicate with clients, addressing questions or concerns regarding their gardens.
- Ensure job site safety and maintain high-quality standards across projects.
What We’re Looking For
- 3+ years of experience in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field.
- Post-secondary education in horticulture or related certification is considered an asset.
- Strong knowledge of plant care, identification, and best practices.
- A passion for creating and maintaining vibrant, healthy landscapes.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with access to reliable transportation.
- Ability to operate a trailer an asset.
- Ability to stand and work outdoors for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to work weekends if required (weather and schedule dependent).
Work Schedule
- April to November (weather-dependent)
- • Monday to Friday: 8-12 hours/day, with occasional Saturday shifts.
- Winter work is available but not required.
- Expected hours: 40–60 per week.
