Description:
DEPARTMENT INFORMATION
The Department of Infrastructure (INF) provides high quality services to the public and Government of the Northwest Territories’ (GNWT) departments, boards and agencies including the planning, design, construction, acquisition, operation and maintenance of public transportation infrastructure and the buildings, works and equipment required for the GNWT to deliver its programs and services. INF makes essential petroleum products available for sale to the public where these products are not provided by the private sector, and promotes the development and increased use of energy efficient technologies. INF also regulates electrical and mechanical safety services and licenses individuals and vehicles operating in the territory.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Extensive knowledge of steam and hydronic boiler systems, HVAC controls, direct digital control systems, electrical systems, energy management and control systems
- Knowledge of plumbing, ventilation systems, oil burner maintenance and repair, sprinkler and alarm systems are also required
- Knowledge of Acts and Regulations as they relate to the status of buildings and equipment
- Skills in troubleshooting, form and spatial perception, manual dexterity, special testing equipment use, monitoring contractor performance, computer applications
TYPICALLY, THE ABOVE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE ATTAINED BY:
Certification as a 4th or 5th Class Operating Engineer or a Plumber with an Oil Burner Mechanic certificate.
Two (2) years of experience working an Operating Engineer in commercial buildings of similar size and type or 5 years combination of Plumbing and Oil Burner experience.
The skills are normally acquired through experience working in a variety of buildings settings and completion or training or experience in each skill area.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent requires a Class 5 Driver’s License.
