We are looking for an enthusiastic HR Advisor to join our team in the Midlands working on a 12 month fixed term contract providing a range of HR support across the relevant business areas. Working in partnership with the HR Managers, the HR Advisor will provide first line support to local and designated management teams in all areas of HR supporting the roll-out and implementation of policies, people initiatives and participating in cross-BU project groups as required.
This role is easily commutable from Birmingham, Wolverhampton, Willenhall, Walsall, Solihull, Bromsgrove, Dudley, Kidderminster, Stourbridge, Kingswinford, Coventry, Bloxwich, West Bromwich, Sutton Coldfield, Erdington, Handsworth, Rowley Regis, Wednesbury, Oldbury, Smethwick, Halesowen, Cannock, Burntwood, Hednesford, Heath Hayes, Lichfield, Stafford, Codsall, Shifnal and the surrounding areas.

Responsibilities:

ROLE RESPONSIBILITY

Reporting directly to the HR Manager, the HR Advisor will be responsible for supporting Managers with advice in respect of employee relations issues, including disciplinary and grievance, ensuring that all employees are treated fairly.

As HR Advisor you will:

  • Ensure compliance with employment law and company policies and procedures at all times providing managers with advice in respect of employee relations issues
  • Support managers in the management and improvement of employee performance
  • Assist in the management of short and long-term absence, balancing the welfare of employees and the needs of the business to identify solutions and remedies
  • Support the Resourcing team to ensure a diverse and inclusive workforce. This may include coaching and supporting managers in interviewing, assessment and selection methods, supporting the design and delivery of competency based assessment centres and interviews
  • Contribute to training needs analysis and the annual company-wide training plan
  • Help develop and execute plans to maximise attraction and minimise attrition
  • Participate in project teams across the wider HR function
  • Support the talent agenda, with a focus on talent management and succession planning and drive initiatives to create an inclusive and diverse workforce
  • Use available metrics and trends to make informed decisions across a wide range of HR areas
  • Ensure all HR processes are followed correctly to ensure SAP and payroll records are accurate and contribute to the wider HR team to ensure that best practice is shared/processes aligned
  • Support managers succession planning and talent management including the development of Graduates, Higher Apprentices & Apprentices
  • Ensure that all absence and sickness is managed and recorded correctly by line managers, in line with Company Policy and provide HR KPI reports and management information as required
  • Represent Tarmac externally as required to promote our business and employment opportunities
  • Contribute to health & wellbeing programmes across the business and visit our sites to participate in H&S activities

The role will form part of a National HR Team, ensuring that through collaborative working that best practice is shared and the wider Tarmac people agenda is driven forward.

The suitable candidate for the role of HR Advisor will ideally have:

  • CIPD qualified or working towards an accreditation, for Associate level membership
  • Knowledge of Employment Law and ability to implement this in practical situations
  • Strong written and verbal communications and be able to use IT platforms. SAP experience is preferred
  • Ability to coach and influence at a range of levels
  • Commercially aware with the ability to understand the business operations and targets
  • Proven experience producing reports aligned to the HR metrics within the Area and Region such as absence rates, turnover, vacancies, payroll analysis, temp labour usage
  • Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team
  • Proven ability to build trust with people and managers
  • Drive and a desire to improve and develop
