Salary: circa £48,000 per annum (higher base salaries may be available for exceptional candidates)

The National Audit Office (NAO) supports parliament to hold government to account and to improve public services. The Human Resources team provides a full range of HR services and support to ensure we have the high calibre people needed to deliver our ambitious strategy. The HR team consists of around 30 staff, working closely together to deliver a high-quality professional service and is formed of the following sub-teams:

We are pleased to advertise a newly created role, which you will have the opportunity to influence how the role develops. We have created this role as part of our increased focused on creating a great place to work and a high performance HR Team. We are looking for someone who wants to create impact with their analysis and insight. As this role is part of the HR Business Partnering Team you will be focused on the impact that data analysis can create in HR strategy and decision making, and there will be a need to work closely with the HR Systems and Data team.
As an HR Data Analyst, you will play a vital role, in collaboration with the HR Systems and Data team, in supporting data-driven decision-making and providing valuable insights to the Human Resources (HR) function. Your primary focus will be on collecting, analysing, and interpreting HR data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improving HR processes and initiatives. This role requires a strong analytical mindset, proficiency in data analysis tools, and the ability to translate complex HR data into meaningful reports and presentations.
Reporting to: Head of HR Business Partnering, with an element of sideways reporting to Head of HR Systems
Internal/External relationships: The key internal relationships include: HR team colleagues, including the HR Systems and Data team; Finance colleagues; other Corporate Service teams; internal audit and internal customers potentially from any grade – including senior management.

SKILLS REQUIRED

Skills required

  • Proven experience as an HR Data Analyst or similar role, with expertise in HR data analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of HR processes, metrics, and KPIs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to extract insights from complex HR data sets.
  • Proficiency in using data analysis tools and programming languages, such as Excel, R, Python, SQL, or other statistical software.
  • Experience with data visualization tools, such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms, to create compelling dashboards and reports.
  • Familiarity with HRIS systems and their data structures, including data extraction and manipulation.
  • Strong understanding of statistical analysis techniques, including correlation analysis, regression, and predictive modelling.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in handling and analysing HR data.
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills to effectively communicate data insights to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Continuous learning mindset to stay updated with HR data analysis trends, tools, and best practices.
  • Bachelor’s degree in HR, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field is advantageous.
  • HR certifications or additional training in data analysis or statistics is a plus.
  • Experience in the HR domain or working closely with HR stakeholders is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyse HR data from various sources, including HRIS, employee surveys, performance evaluations, and other relevant systems.
  • In collaboration with the HR Systems and Data team, clean, transform, and validate HR data to ensure accuracy, consistency, and data integrity.

Use data analysis techniques to identify trends, patterns, correlations, and insights related to HR metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs).

  • Work alongside the HR Systems and Data team to develop and maintain HR dashboards, reports, and visualisations to effectively communicate HR data and insights to stakeholders.
  • Conduct statistical analyses and predictive modelling to support HR initiatives and identify potential risks or opportunities.
  • Collaborate with HR stakeholders, to understand data requirements and develop customized reports and analytics to meet their needs.
  • Provide HR data-driven insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and drive HR initiatives.
  • Monitor HR data to identify data anomalies, outliers, and data quality issues, and take corrective actions as necessary, liaising with the HR Systems and Data team where appropriate.
  • Stay updated with HR trends, industry benchmarks, and best practices to enhance HR data analysis capabilities.
  • Where requested, alongside the HR Systems and Data team, Participate in HR projects and initiatives related to data analytics, including HR system implementations, process improvements, and automation.
  • Maintain data privacy and confidentiality standards in handling sensitive HR data.
  • Input ideas and perspectives via the HR Systems and Data team on ways we could optimize HR data management systems and ensure data accuracy and accessibility.
  • Support HR data requirements for regulatory reporting, audits, and compliance purposes, working with the HR Systems and Data team where appropriate.
  • Provide training and guidance to HR team members, alongside the HR Systems and Data team, on data analysis tools and techniques.
  • Continuously identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to enhance efficiency and accuracy in HR data analysis, working closely with the HR Systems and Data team to understand wider opportunities and priorities.
