Description:
The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ promotes, cares and advocates for a vibrant and inclusive downtown where
business thrives and people are drawn to work, live, shop, and explore. We host events, promote
downtown, keep the neighbourhood clean and attractive and are a voice for the downtown community.
Our downtown is on Treaty No. 1 territory and the National Homeland of the Red River Métis.
As our HR Generalist, reporting to the Director of Human Resources, you will be responsible for providing
full HR support to department leaders, up to the Manager level, including managing key day-to-day HR
functions, such as recruitment, onboarding, performance management, conflict resolution, benefits
administration, payroll support, employee communications etc.
Our ideal candidate is a problem solver and analytical thinker, who excels at developing trust-based
relationships with managers and employees and has a demonstrated strength in project management.

OUR REQUIREMENTS:
- Related post-secondary education and min 2 years’ experience in an HR Generalist role; preferably
with or working toward a CPHR designation
- Strong knowledge and understanding of HR best practices and legislative compliance with respect to
employment, health and safety, and all HR functions and responsibilities
- Demonstrated ability to be adaptable, work effectively and independently with a focus on meeting
business objectives and deadlines
- Excellent written, oral, presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative, probe, analyze and problem solve issues
- Proven ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints, maintaining confidentiality
and modeling respectful behaviour
- Works well in a team-oriented environment
- Strong organizational skills, including effective prioritization and follow-up
- Solid computer skills with experience using MS Office and electronic payroll system, (preferably
Payworks) is essential

Responsibilities:
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide managers with end-to-end recruitment & selection support, including drafting and presenting
employment contracts
- Coordinate new hire onboarding, including working with new employees in completing all new hire
documentation and guiding managers in proper onboarding practices ensuring a seamless transition
in joining the organization
- In collaboration with managers, develop annual training and development plans, to enhance employee
engagement and retention and ensure staff are up to date on all mandatory departmental training
- Coordinate all mandatory HR training including sourcing facilitator and training spaces
- Ensure managers have proper leadership training, and where needed, provide guidance and
support, in an advisory capacity, regarding employee issues, performance management, conflict
resolution and positive change management
- Support internal investigations on employee related matters
- Provide guidance to employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, and compliance matters
to ensure employees are treated fairly
- Promote a positive workplace culture through various engagement initiatives
- Draft all general HR notifications and communications and support in the updating of the HR manual
and updating/development of HR policies
- Provide payroll support and administer employee benefits programs; assist with inquiries related to
compensation and benefits
- Maintain/update physical and electronic employee files
- Track HR analytics and prepare quarterly and ad hoc reports as requested
- Manage sick leave, WCB claims and correspondence, and participate in developing return-to-work
plans
- Contribute to the development and implementation of HR initiatives including research, analysis and
presenting recommendations
- Provide support to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Health and Safety Committees
employment, health and safety, and all HR functions and responsibilities
