JOB DESCRIPTION:

The HR Manager is responsible for meeting the business’ HR needs of organization, in accordance with BEST’s culture, mission, and values. Reporting to the Director of People & Culture, the role supports the planning, implementation and evaluation of BEST’s human resources programs and initiatives throughout the organization.
Job Location: Coquitlam, BC
Salary Range: $80,000 - $85,000/ yearly
Position Type: Temporary 1-year contract with possibility of extension

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Meet regularly with Operations Team and corporate departments to provide support, guidance, coaching, education and direction with all HR matters, especially employee engagement, recruitment, performance management and labour relations matters.
  • Maintain knowledge of the current and applicable federal and provincial labour laws, privacy, human rights and safety legislation.
  • Monitor and advise on labour issues within each union group and assist in the creation or updating of the required internal policies and procedures.
  • Promote, encourage and help foster a positive and cooperative labour relations environment amongst Union, management and employee groups.
  • Identify training needs and assist in the development and delivery of in-house training programs to support the organization’s training and development needs for all levels of salaried staff.
  • Assist with the maintenance and administration of compensation structure, succession planning and other HR programs.
  • Manage, coach and mentor a team consisting of recruitment specialists, HR generalists and HR Coordinators
  • Assist with complex investigations related to employee complaints, misconduct, and bullying & harassment and advise on appropriate corrective action to mitigate risk of escalation
  • Prepare and maintain HR and recruitment metrics and KPIs, while using this data to propose recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate disciplinary action meetings & terminations.
  • Review and analyze employee survey and exit interview results to identify and implement development proposal for areas of opportunity
  • Assist in monitoring and management of BEST’s employee confidence line & other HR related company initiatives
  • Oversee and manage recruitment to ensure open positions are filled in a timely manner
  • Develop and lead employee rewards & recognition programs;
  • Other duties as required to support business growth.

Skills Required:

  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (written and verbal);
  • Thorough understanding of Employment Standards, Human Rights, Occupational Health & Safety, & Privacy, and Labour laws in BC, AB, & ON;
  • Previous Labour Relations experience considered an asset;
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Office;
  • Ability to build and maintain rapport with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Intrinsic ability to effectively analyze, plan, organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines;
  • Multilingual ability considered an asset.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelors in business administration (major in HR preferred);
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years previous related work experience;
  • CPHR considered an asset;
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving abstract;
  • Acceptable security and criminal record check.
