About the team
Our HR Department is seeking an HR Officer to join our Employment Law and Policy Team. This team serves as the employment law and policy expert for HR colleagues and services, addressing areas such as employee relations, union engagement, change processes and organisational development aspects of change management, and corporate transformation agenda. Our small, dedicated team of three is led by the HR Manager, and this role will report directly to the Senior HR Officer.
About the role
As an HR Officer in our Employment Law and Policy Team, you will play a crucial role in providing expert advice and support on employment law and policy matters to HR colleagues and various services within the council.
You will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining policies that comply with current employment law and best practice. Furthermore, you will update these policies in response to legislative changes identified through horizon scanning and provide employment law updates to the HR team through regular communications and presentations.
Additionally, you will ensure the accurate and timely processing of all relevant administrative tasks, provide data and analysis for queries and information access requests, and support the team in union engagement through meetings and ongoing communication.
About you

Essential:

  • Proven experience in Human Resources.
  • Meticulous attention to detail in creating and reviewing documents.
  • In-depth knowledge of employment law and HR best practice.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build strong working relationships at all levels.
  • Confident in providing advice to managers, with the ability to influence and challenge when necessary.
  • Proficient in IT, with strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters with confidentiality.

Desirable:

  • CIPD qualification or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Previous experience in policy writing.
  • Strong presentation skills with experience in delivering training.
  • Previous experience in managing employee relations cases.
  • Familiarity with working with trade unions.
  • Understanding of local government terms and conditions.
