Job Description:
The Nebraska Department of Labor is seeking a self-motivated professional to join our Human Resources team to support and enhance current HR functions. Our ideal candidate will be highly efficient, organized, and have knowledge of HR strategies and policies/procedures.

Examples of Work
- Administer the agency’s Worker’s Compensation Program, responsible for claim documentation and submission to Worker’s Compensation third-party administrator. Communicate regularly with teammates, follow-up on claims, and answer questions as appropriate.
- Administer the agency’s Employee Recognition Program and serve as Subject Matter Expert to answer questions from employees for the program and awards.
- Administer employee leave programs including FMLA, short/long term disability, military, civil, catastrophic, worker’s compensation, maternity, adoption and leave of absence leaves. Document, process, and maintain administrative procedures and related documentation for teammate Family Medical Leave, ADA, workers’ compensation, catastrophic, and military leave in partnership with the Total Rewards/Leave Administrator. This includes monitoring and tracking open cases and leave usage. Maintain complete and accurate records of leave and accommodation requests.
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert to answer questions from employees on State Benefits which include health/vision/dental/life insurance, flexible spending/health savings accounts, retirement and short/long term disability. Meet with new and current employees to review available benefits, answer questions and ensure enrollment documents and/or changes are complete and accurate. Coordinates and supports annual open enrollment for NDOL employees. Support annual open enrollment including coordination of collateral creation and scheduling events.
- Administers Americans with Disabilities Program. Works with teammates to ensure all relevant medical documentation is completed and submitted for timely review. Assist with processing completed physician certifications or re-certifications and return to work. Coach and train managers on leave policies and processes, engage with teammates in the interactive process related to accommodation requests.
- Coordinate with NDOL Finance and DAS Shared Services to ensure timely payroll processing. Serve as liaison with the State Employee Assistance. Develop strategies to partner with the employee assistance vendor to promote information to NDOL employees.
- Answer teammate questions and provide information and general assistance regarding leave and related human resource programs, plans, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Location: This is an on-site position located at 550 South 16th Street, Lincoln
Schedule: 8am - 5pm; Monday - Friday
Requirements/Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Two years of coursework or training in personnel management, business administration, public administration or office/administrative or three years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience performing human resources work related to workers compensation, FMLA, ADA, Total Rewards, or benefits includes a working knowledge of federal, state and local leave laws. Experience working with and advising employees from all levels of the organization on policies and procedures. Excellent communication skills that demonstrate a proven ability to build/maintain an effective and positive professional relationship and partnership with all levels of the agency and third-party service providers. Demonstrates ability to be a self-starter, highly organized, detail-oriented, and accurate with a proven success as someone with excellent follow through.
Other: Regular and reliable attendance is required.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
Experience working with and administering employee benefit packages, FMLA and ADA. Experience working with and administering an Employee Recognition Program. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software. Proven ability to build/maintain effective and positive professional relationships and partnerships with all levels of an organization as well as internal and external customers. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in order to provide information or training, give and receive instructions and diffuse difficult situations. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality.
