Description:

The Avon Maitland District School Board is inviting applications for the position of HRS Manager, Employee and Labour Relations, within the Human Resource Services department at the Education Centre in Seaforth, Ontario.
Reporting to the Senior Human Resource Services Manager, the HRS Manager, Employee and Labour Relations works as part of the Human Resource Services team to provide expertise and support to the Board in areas such as labour and employee relations, collective agreement administration, grievance and conflict resolution, workplace investigations, employee health and wellness, and performance management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain effective and positive relationships with employees, supervisors/managers and unions;
  • Manage day-to-day functions related to the efficient execution and coordination of labour and employee relations in accordance with Board policies and procedures, collective agreements, and legislative requirements;
  • Provide leadership and guidance on labour relations matters, including grievance resolutions, arbitrations, human rights, OLRB proceedings, collective bargaining and collective agreement administration/interpretation;
  • Provide leadership and guidance on employee relations matters, including employment and education related issues, human rights, progressive discipline, termination, employee performance/appraisals, attendance concerns, employee complaints and conflict resolution;
  • Manage the investigation process in accordance with Administrative Procedures and conduct workplace investigations involving allegations of misconduct, harassment, discrimination and workplace violence;
  • Oversee the employee health and wellness program, including disability management and attendance support;
  • Design and deliver training sessions on human resource topics tailored for management and supervisory staff;
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages collaboration, innovation, and growth among team members;
  • Evaluate and oversee the performance of team members, providing regular feedback and coaching to ensure productivity and professional development.

Education, Qualifications and Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resource Management or related field;
  • Certification in, or pursuit of, the CHRP designation is strongly preferred;
  • Progressive human resources experience in a highly unionized public sector environment, preferably in a school board or other multi-site setting;
  • Solid working knowledge of all relevant employment legislation and regulations;
  • Advanced written and interpersonal communication skills as demonstrated through the ability to manage challenging interactions with multiple parties;
  • Demonstrated integrity and credibility in dealing with confidential/sensitive information;
  • Sound analytical, problem-solving and negotiation skills with an ability to understand broad, complex organizational issues;
  • Ability to quickly evaluate a situation and think critically;
  • Proven ability to multi-task, balancing competing priorities and tight deadlines; and,
  • Strong computer literacy skills in standard office systems.

Compensation Package Details
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week (12 months per year)
Rate of Pay: Effective September 1, 2024, the salary range will be $98,374 - $114,552 per Level 8 in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of Employment for Non-Union,
Pension Plan: Defined pension plan through the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS)
