  • Degree in education, history, geography, law, English, or a related discipline.
  • Master’s degree preferable.
  • Bilingual english and spanish. All classes must be delivered in english.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and debating skills.

Staff and school personnel have an important role in the schooling process at Balboa Academy. Their well-being and career growth is also viewed as a high priority. Special consideration is given to make them part of our school family by trying to include them when appropriate in school events, celebrations, faculty meetings and staff development activities. They are encouraged to partake in training activities to help them grow in their specific career areas.
The social studies teacher’s responsibilities at Balboa Academy include teaching elements of history, geography, politics, economics, religion, and culture to students. This person should keep abreast of current events and initiate spirited, respectful debates amongst students. This person will also be required to set and grade various assessments.
Outstanding candidates are able to multitask, source appropriate learning material, and also present their opinion to the class without making any student feel threatened for holding a different view.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Setting up lesson plans and selecting learning material and resources that will help achieve curriculum objectives.
  • Analyzing needs, interests, strengths, and weaknesses of students, and developing lesson plans in accordance with these factors.
  • Monitoring progress and discipline, and keeping parents and school counselors informed of learners who need extra support.
  • Informing students of learning opportunities.
  • Establishing classroom rules, and ensuring all students obey these rules.
  • Organizing field trips and ensuring permission slips are handed out and signed in a timely manner.
  • Participating in school events and acting as a chaperone when required.
  • Attending meetings, staff training, conferences, and other ongoing learning programs.
