Description:
JOB SUMMARY
The HSE Advisor is responsible for working closely with all levels of management, employees, and safety coaches (where applicable) to ensure safe work practices, policies and procedures are implemented and adhered to consistently and appropriately across the organization. Adherence will be verified through spot checks, interviews, site visits and validation/verification checks. This will be a 6 month term contract position.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Valid 1st Aid certificate
- Valid H2S certificate
- 3-5+ years of drilling/service rig industry experience
QUALIFICATIONS
- A valid Driver’s License with ability to travel to various locations (80% or more travel requirement)
- Applicant selected for hire will be required to complete a background check (which includes references & credential verifications)

- Certifications – Maintains technical and safety certifications required by company or government agencies; remains current on all OSHA, EUSD and other required training

- Occupational Health and Safety – Understands fully the Ensign Health and Safety policy and self-responsibility for own health and safety at work; Demonstrates responsibility to avoid adversely affecting the health and safety of others through any act or omission
- Uses the correct protective clothing and equipment as provided by Ensign and guards against misuse or damage to such equipment
- Reports any hazardous situations arising in the workplace that cannot be self-corrected, or injury incurred during the course of work, no matter how minor
- Avoids injury resulting from manual handling tasks, by use of risk assessment, correct mechanical handling equipment and correct manual handling techniques
Responsibilities:
- Field level coordination & implementation of the Divisional HSE Program
- Conduct HSE & required systems training – on the job (field) and classroom
- Assist HSE Management with the creation, maintenance, and execution of HSE initiatives - i.e. - DROPS
- Setting COR or other audit deliverables and completing action items
- Conduct internal audits to validate and verify operational compliance with company policies, competency and global standards
- Assist the Director of HSE with qualitative assessment and strategic planning of HSE Management
- Communicate with and assist operational units to ensure HSE and training performance metrics meet defined targets
- Mentor divisional field employees (safety coaches, rig managers, and rig crew)
- Actively work with the field level employees to ensure that the highest level of health and safety standards are applied and maintained in all field operations
- Provide field level training in site specific emergency response plans and field system tools (if applicable)
- On-site review and development of operating procedures and Job Safety Analysis’
- Ensure all well control and blow out prevention measures meet required regulations, and operator requirements. Confirm that rig personnel have the required well control training and it’s up to date
- Ensure all field employees understand and agree to adhere to the clients/prime contractor HSE requirements
- Conduct TapRooT (or equivalent) investigations on all medium-to-high severity events
- Determine casual factors and root causes of incident events
- Assign meaningful corrective actions and present findings with management and clients
- Develop or revise health and safety policies, procedures and initiatives
- Conduct frequent Health and Safety Spot Checks to ensure all company policies, procedures, safe work practices, competency validations and applicable regulations are being met and adhered to
- Ensure all Corrective Actions identified as health, safety and environmental deficiencies are followed up and completed within GRMS in a timely matter. Assist operations in closure as required
- Represent and promote global, corporate & divisional safety goals
