SUMMARY
The HSE Coordinator is responsible for supporting the implementation and administration of the Health, Safety, and Environment program under the direction of the HR Manager. This position will assist in planning, developing, leading, monitoring, communicating, training, of the company HSE Program.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- 5+ years of experience in a health and safety role
- Excellent working knowledge of ISO14001:2015, ISO45001:2018 and MHSA COR
- Safety auditor certification with MHSA would be an asset
- Occupational Health and Safety Diploma or Degree
- WCB Disability Management experience, including return to work programs and appeals.
- Have a strong working knowledge of Alberta OH&S
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite

Responsibilities:
- Development and maintenance of safe work practices, hazard assessments, emergency response plans, policies, procedures, and worker training.
- Ensure that the Health, Safety, and Environment Program is understood, followed, measured, and communicated regularly in order to establish a safety-first culture within the organization
- Lead incident investigations to identify direct, indirect, and root causes of the incident and to identify effective corrective actions.
- Maintain training records for HSE standards.
- Organize various annual HSE testing and report findings to Management.
- Conduct orientation of new employees with the safety, environment, and competency program training during the onboarding process.
- Ensure all equipment and buildings owned or operated by the company comply with environmental, health, safety, and fire regulations and any other Provincial or Federal regulations.
- Development of slide deck for quarterly town all meetings disseminated to all employees regarding quarterly HSE performance and goals.
- Ensure emergency/crisis procedures are established, followed and trained to all staff
- Perform training needs analysis and implement required training(s) strategically to minimize work disruptions
- Monitor changes to regulations, ensuring “coming into effect” dates are understood and strategic change processes are reviewed with the leadership team and implemented across the organization.
- Liaise with all regulatory inspectors for matters related to OH&S and the environment
- Procure and implement strategic partnerships with third party consultants, such as occupational hygienists, environmental specialists and COR auditors where needed.
- Identify strategic goals for annual implementation of and/or changes to the Health & Safety Management System (HSMS)
- Train floor-level supervision on their roles and responsibilities under OH&S law, including the expectation of their position within RHK’s HSMS
- Conduct annual internal MHSA and COR audits, including development and communication of results and action plans.
- Management of the RHK disability management program in accordance with WCB protocols for reporting and return to work processes in conjunction with Human Resources
- Management of regulatory reporting including OHS and Alberta Parks & Environment reporting
- Conduct both formal and informal shop tours/inspections to identify at risk behaviors and conditions, ensuring interventions take place
- Completion of focus inspections when triggered by trending or observations of at-risk behaviors or conditions
- Compilation and delivery of monthly HSE Safety Meeting
- Addition of safety information to each weekly Toolbox Talk
- Stewardship of the RHK Joint Health and Safety Committee, as a special guest to the committee, as needed to ensure traction of the committee
- Development of new procedures or standards as RHK experiences strategic growth and/or acquisition of new tools, materials or equipment
- Management of Hazard ID program to ensure tracking / trending of data
- Dissemination of results from internal inspections, regulatory inspections, COR audits, incident investigations, and any other information required to different levels of the organization to ensure constant feedback loops maintained
- Assist Operations with tracking NCR’s & Corrective Actions
- Additional duties may be assigned.
