DESCRIPTION

The Safety Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing and updating HSE written plans, safe work practices / procedures, hazard assessments and other HSE related documentation as required. Responsibilities also include facilitating HSE related training (including orientation, supervisory training). Responsibilities may also include the completion of tracking, trending and reporting internal and externally (client and government) This position will be based out of our Woodfibre Tunnel Project office in Squamish, BC.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree or diploma in a related field i.e. HSE or OH&S.
  • 5-7 years’ experience in construction safety standards and practices in major construction projects.
  • Must have minimum of 2 years experience working on projects related to tunneling.
  • Must possess a valid driver license for the type(s) of vehicles which may be driven, and an acceptable driving record as determined by Michels Review Team.

DESIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • CRSP certified (Canadian Registered Safety Professional) or similar designation is considered an asset.
  • Experience working on joint venture projects is an asset.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, subcontractors, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
    Administer and update the site-specific Safety Plan, Emergency Response Plan Project Hazard Assessment, Job Hazard Assessments as project conditions change.

  • Advise and assist with the development of orientation, onboarding, training and competency programs and processes.


    • Onboard and mentor all new and existing employees with health, safety and environmental responsibilities and expectations. Build strong relationships with Operations, work closely with them to ensure the HSE Program aligns with the work that is being completed.

      Provide work instruction/training as required (e.g., WHMIS, TDG, Confined space, PPE), use and care of specialized personal protective equipment (ie. respiratory, fall protection etc.).



      • Identify best practices and lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce risks, raise safety awareness, and improve safe work practices.

      • Make available to workers the applicable health and safety acts, regulations, codes, ensure all applicable safe work procedures are available to workers and followed on site.
      • Uphold company culture and core values by adhering to Michels Canada’s Standards and Policies and working with others to promote and preserve our values while conducting your duties to contribute to a positive and professional work environment.
      • Build strong relationships and maintain them with the client throughout the life of the project.
      • Other duties as assigned.
