Description:

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGER

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000
Benefits: 33 days holiday (inc BH), Private Medical
Working Hours: 39-hour week with flexible hours available

OVERVIEW:

Our client, a prominent player in the heavy manufacturing sector, is looking for an experienced Environmental Health and Safety Manager. This vital role involves overseeing the implementation and maintenance of health, safety, and environmental programs, ensuring compliance with regulations, and promoting a safe and healthy work environment for all employees. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with management, staff, and regulatory agencies to develop and enforce effective policies and procedures.
Candidates require experience within Heavy Manufacturing environments and also experience leading ISO 14001 & 45001 audits.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective training and collaboration.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills for risk identification and solution development.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects.
  • Ability to lead and influence a culture of safety and accountability.
  • Proficiency in software for managing safety data.
  • Experience in managing ISO 14001/45001 certifications and audits.
  • Knowledge of contractor management on site.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent (advantageous)
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental health and safety management, preferably in manufacturing.
  • Experience in developing safety training programs and managing safety committees.
  • Strong understanding of risk management principles and incident investigation techniques.
  • Demonstrable experience leading ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 audits.
  • AIEMA Foundation Certification in Environmental Management or equivalent.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to various company locations as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement health, safety, and environmental policies in alignment with local authorities.
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to identify hazards, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Create and deliver training programs on safety procedures, emergency responses, and environmental conservation.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of safety programs, making adjustments for continuous improvement.
  • Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, analyzing root causes and implementing preventive measures.
  • Maintain and update safety data sheets (SDS) to ensure compliance with communication standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote ergonomic solutions and wellness initiatives.
  • Stay informed about health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices, communicating updates to the organization.
  • Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies, participating in inspections and audits.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans, coordinating drills to ensure preparedness.
  • Carry out safety risk assessments prior to new projects.
  • Be accountable for health and safety performance and the establishment of safety goals.
