Job Overview: GrizzlyTrek Group Ltd. is looking for a skilled and bilingual Health and Safety Officer for a full-time position in mine maintenance in the picturesque town of Mont-Laurier, QC. SUMMARY:

This role will provide health and safety program officer for the company as well as provide direct health and safety guidance to Operations. The HS Officer will have primary responsibility to design, adapt, implement and maintain the company’s health and safety management system. The HS Officer will be responsible to understand HS compliance requirements in the jurisdictions where the company operates, build and manage the complementary HS programs, and advise project teams on HS specific standards and reporting. The HS Officer will provide coaching to build HS capacity and capability within the company, project teams and the contractor workforce. This role will report to the HS Lead.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bilingual French and English
Our ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of recent, related experience including construction, manufacturing, mineral exploration, mining or related field experience,
University degree/ Diploma in occupational health & safety; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Candidates should be able to demonstrate an understanding of health and safety issues and risks in mineral exploration and knowledge of health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and practices.

In addition to the above, you will have:

  • Considerable experience implementing and supporting safety programs, workplace inspections, audits and incident investigations (using Taproot, ICAM, ICS or similar programs).
  • Basic First Aid Certificate
  • Ability to guide supervisory staff on safety matters through active listening and transparent communication.
  • Strong analytical and research skills and a high degree of integrity and professionalism.
  • Can facilitate in-house safety training.
  • Sound knowledge and ability to interpret and apply relevant regulations and legislation such as Workers compensation, occupational health, and mining regulation.

  • Knowledge of provincial, federal, and local regulations.

  • Ability to communicate, fluent in French and with various computer applications.

Responsibilities:

  • Help design and cultivate a behavior-based HS culture in the company.
  • Design, implement and maintain the company’s HS Management System.
  • Ensure that HS protection compliant standard work procedures and systems are developed, implemented, understood and monitored.
  • Ensure that incidents are reported, recorded, and translated into system or behavioral improvements.
  • Ensure that all team members are adequately trained in HS standards and requirements to properly complete work.
  • Attend safety/toolbox meetings and communicate expectations with a focus of continued improvement of the HS Management System and to address team member concerns.
  • Provide a high level of safety expertise, coaching and mentorship
  • Officer HS initiatives and continuous improvement plans, including transparent HS KPI’s and statistics in a dashboard or similar format.
  • Develop reports on compliance, improvement, and workforce engagement.
  • Participate in operational and major hazard risk assessments and audit activities.
  • Take part in incident investigation and ensure that reporting is completed with closure action plans.
  • Investigate all near misses and non-conformity in line with client guidelines.
  • Assume responsibility for the operational management of safety.
  • Oversee security screenings. Ensure that information is collected and analyzed in accordance with established procedures and related legal requirements.
  • Oversee the physical security of all facilities. Evaluate the effectiveness of alarm systems and other security devices. Ensure that safety equipment effectively protects employees, assets, and customers.
  • Supervise and provide health and safety training. Assess training needs and develop or lead programs to meet those needs. Ensure compliance with the company’s policies and regulations.
  • Prepare and follow up on the various security audits according to the schedule.
  • Ensure the certification of subcontractors and visitors in terms of health and safety and ensure training in the reception of the latter.
  • Attend training sessions to update technical and managerial knowledge as needed.
  • Assumes responsibility for related duties as required.
  • Complete assigned special projects.
  • Perform all other related tasks.
