We are looking for an
HSE Manager
To join our team in Pikkala, Finland. You take over the management of Health, Safety, and Environmental protection (HSE) at our plant. Safety is at the center of everything we do, and our “Zero & Beyond” mission aims at building a culture of prevention that integrates safety, health, and well-being, at work and beyond. You will support our organization in realizing and maintaining our ambitious safety vision.
We will offer you a very challenging and intriguing position as the Pikkala plant is undergoing a capacity expansion which also requires a further step-up on the safety culture. Our plant is a center of excellence for submarine cable production within the group and you can make a significant impact on sustainability and the health and safety of our employees. You report to the Country Manager/CEO of Finland.

Responsibilities

  • Compliance – our license to operate: ensure implementation and compliance with (legal) requirements, ISO standards 9001/14001/45001/50001, internal standards, and (environmental) permits.
  • Safety Culture Zero & Beyond: establish and implement actions to comply with the company programs aimed at nurturing an open health and safety culture throughout the entire organization. Drive and ensure execution of actions aimed at improving the maturity level of the company in all roles and areas and be a leading example.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate with management, employees, and regulatory agencies regarding health, safety, and environmental matters. Enable communication at the site level through the deployment of safety talks, safety alerts, and safety observations.
  • Safety Equipment and Procedures: Ensure the availability and proper use of safety equipment, PPE’s and promote safe work procedures.
  • Incident Investigation: Lead near miss and incident investigations, ensure effective management of outcomes and lessons learned.
  • HSE Audits: Conduct regular occupational health and safety audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement in all areas of the factory. This includes participation in 6S activities.
  • Safety Training: Develop and conduct safety training programs for employees to raise awareness and promote a culture of safety.
  • Risk Management: Plan, execute, coordinate, and follow up on risk assessments.
  • Emergency Preparedness: Head of the emergency response organization, maintain the emergency response plan, organize training and exercises.
  • Health and Safety reporting: Analyze and report on Pikkala’s health and safety performance metrics (safety observations, near misses, accidents with and without lost time), both internally and to government bodies as applicable.

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 5 years of experience as an HSE Manager in a production environment, preferably within complex manufacturing industries.
  • Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of safety and environmental regulations, risk management, emergency response, and safety management systems, with a focus on influencing people.
  • Formal safety qualifications: Experience with ISO 45001/14001. In addition, experience with ISO 9001 and 500001 is an advantage.
  • Audit: Internal Auditor certification is an advantage, with experience in conducting integrated audit programs.
  • Education: A degree in a related field such as Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or Engineering.
  • Leadership: Effective and impactful leadership style and excellent team management abilities. Ability to work effectively within cross-functional teams with a strong hands-on approach.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with employees, management, and regulatory agencies. You have an excellent command of the Finnish and English languages, both oral and written.
  • Problem-solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and address health, safety, and environmental issues.
