Job Description

We’re excited to announce that we are hiring for a HSE Manager, to own, develop and lead a multi-year HSE Strategy, in collaboration with site and functional leadership, in support of the Crop Protection (CP) R&D strategy, which:

  • Delivers against our Goal Zero ambition.
  • Promotes and enhances the health and wellbeing of our employees.
  • Protects and enhances the Jealott’s Hill environment.
  • Furthers the HSE maturity of the site.

Within this role you will ensure compliance with the Syngenta HSE Management System, UK legislation, and best practices. You will lead and develop the HSE team, while also owning the communication related to all HSE programmes and initiatives. Further responsibilities will include:

  • Developing, leading and lagging indicators to effectively measure and trend HSE performance.
  • Maintaining a robust Emergency Management System and incident investigation methodology.
  • Implementing continuous improvement (CI) in HSE operations and embedding a data-driven approach.
  • Ensuring the HSE Team maintain auditable records of all activities, policies, and procedures.
  • Exchanging knowledge, thinking and good practices across the Global CPR HSE Exchange and UK Syngenta Ltd business
  • Acting as a member of the Infrastructure Leadership Team to integrate HSE across all activities and strategic priorities.
  • HSE budget management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • NEBOSH Diploma level qualified or equivalent HSE qualifications.
  • Proven record of developing and leading a HSE strategic plan.
  • A visionary leader capable of engaging the organisation and driving pragmatic change.
  • Experience in managing and developing a professional HSE team.
  • Working experience with UK Regulatory bodies e.g. (EA, DEFRA) and detailed knowledge of UK legislation.
  • Experience of working in a complex global business or working on a large campus.
  • Broad HSE experience, ideally in the life sciences or similar industry, including across laboratory, office, and construction environments.
  • Experience of managing operational budgets.
  • Excellent organisational skills and a proven ability to prioritise, plan and deliver to deadlines.
  • Someone who can communicate with impact and in a compelling way.

DESIRED SKILLS

  • Intimacy with ISO18001 and HSG65.
  • A good working knowledge of common HSE industry systems and platforms (e.g. Enablon).
  • Project or change management experience.
