RESOURCE SERVICES ASSISTANT - PAYROLL

Range: $62,780 - $78,478 per year
The Simcoe County District School Board is seeking qualified applicants
for the position of Human Resource Services Assistant – Payroll. The successful candidate will work within the
Human Resource Services Department to provide administrative and office support
to various teams as required; the current assignment will support the
Compensation and Benefit Services team, the Health and Wellness Services team,
and the Human Resource Services team. The
Human Resources Assistant – Payroll will be responsible for: 1) Pension –
Administration of the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan (OTPP) and the Ontario
Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS).
This includes offering and processing enrolment for Full Time (FT) and
Not Full Time (NFT) employees, offering employees the opportunity to purchase
pension while on leaves of absence, annual pension reconciliations, monthly
reconciliation of pension liability accounts, and responding to queries from
the pension providers. 2) Benefits –
Working with the various benefits providers/plans, responding to benefit
inquiries from benefit providers and employees, processing benefit premium
invoices and billing employees on leave of absence, monthly reconciliation of
pension liability accounts.
This is a position that requires a high level of initiative,
professionalism, diplomacy, confidentiality, and the ability to work both
independently and as a team member. The
successful candidate will be responsible for verifying documentation and
ensuring completeness and accuracy; establishing and maintaining employee
payroll files with respect to Board procedure and policy requirements;
preparing and maintaining correspondence, and other materials; identifying and
implementing process improvements; and providing departmental support as
required.
Qualifications, Pertinent
Skills and Experience:

Three (3) year College diploma
in Human Resources, Business or a related combination of education and
experience.

Three (3) years’ administrative
experience in pension / benefits / payroll, preferably in an educational
setting or a large, complex, unionized human resources environment.

National
Payroll Institute Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation preferred.
-
Comprehensive knowledge of
payroll legislative requirements including, Canada Revenue Agency and Service
Canada, Employment Standards Act.

Previous
work experience and excellent working knowledge of
OMERS and OTPP
-
Excellent computer skills
including experience with MS Office applications (Word, Access, Excel, and SharePoint);

Knowledge of K212 (IPPS.net) or a
similar HRIS would be a definite asset.

Excellent analytical, problem
solving, interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.

Strong written and verbal
communication and interpersonal skills.

Highly organized with experience
in developing and maintaining organizational systems.

Self-starter with the proven
ability to multi-task, prioritize with competing priorities and high attention
to detail while adhering to strict deadlines.

Ability to work successfully in
a team atmosphere and demonstrate professionalism in dealing with both
sensitive and confidential issues.

This is a 1.0 FTE permanent position. The regular
work year for this position is twelve (12) months of the year. The compensation range for
this twelve (12) month position is $62,780 to $78,478 per year, depending on
qualifications and experience. This position is based on a thirty-five (35)
hour work week.
Participation in the OMERS Pension Plan is
mandatory for all full-time permanent employees,
even if currently in receipt of an OMERS
pension.
