Description:
Reporting to the Associate Director of Human Resources, this full-time management confidential position facilitates the administration of a wide variety of high level human resources activities with a focus on reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), performance management, and employee relations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree
- Experience working in human resources
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree preferably in Human Resources, Business, Labor Relations, Human Services, Psychology, Counseling or a related field
- Experience working in higher education
- Experience working in unionized environment
- Employee relations experience
- Supervision/leadership experience
- Experience providing reasonable accommodations under the ADA
Responsibilities:
Reasonable Accommodations under the ADA
- Act as the designee for reasonable accommodation under the ADA as per campus and SUNY policies.
- Assist employees who request accommodations under the ADA.
- Manage the interactive reasonable accommodation process. Work with employees, health care providers, and supervisors to ensure requests for accommodation are processed in accordance with laws and rules governing the ADA. Ensure the return-to-work policy is adhered to and set up light duty programs as appropriate.
- Provide on-going training to campus employees, supervisors and leaders to ensure compliance with university requirements under the ADA.
SUNY Employee/Labor Relations
- Serve as an employee relations designee for the campus.
- Assist with investigations, interrogations, counseling, fact-finding, and/or grievance meetings for employee relations matters as needed.
- Attend labor management meetings, representing management in regards to employee relations matters and/or concerns, including local negotiations and various policy implementations.
- Interact with union leaders on various labor relations issues and perform other employee/labor relations tasks as assigned.
- Advise campus leaders regarding work policies and behavioral expectations in the work place.
- Conduct in-house training on various employee/labor relations topics.
- Assist the Associate Director and Associate Vice President for HR with employee relations cases, including interrogations, discipline, follow-up and training as needed for employment cases.
- Serve as the contact for 1st and 2nd step grievance procedures under collective bargaining agreements.
Performance Management – UUP/MC Professional Employees
- Provide counsel and advice to managers and supervisors of the university to ensure best practices in UUP, M/C, classified staff and Research Foundation performance management.
- Manage the professional employee performance management and reappointment dates and timelines consistent with the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees.
- Manage the non-renewal and probationary process.
