The Opportunity.
Smart & Biggar is currently looking for an experienced Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to join our HR team for 14 months. In this role, you will play a key role in providing strategic HR guidance and leading the HR cycle activities for a diverse population of employees located throughout Canada.

Responsibilities.

  • Lead and manage national HR initiatives and program development
  • Oversee performance management for assigned employee population, including talent identification, career development planning, and performance improvement
  • Collaborate on the annual compensation review process, including market research, analysis, and communication of proposed adjustments to People Leaders
  • Collaborate with internal clients to develop plans addressing current and future HR resource needs
  • Provide expert advice and coaching to Managers and People Leaders on employee relations matters
  • Work with the Talent Acquisition team and broader HR department to identify hiring needs, fill vacancies efficiently, and ensure effective onboarding and integration of new hires
  • Collaborate with the national HR team to implement and execute HR strategies
  • Prepare and analyze reports on relevant employee data as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Head of Human Resources

Qualifications, competencies, and experience.

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field
  • 8-10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 5 years in an advisory role
  • Demonstrated ability to lead HR initiatives and influence stakeholders at all levels of an organization
  • Professional HR designation is considered an asset
  • Expertise in performance management, talent development, and compensation strategies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey information and build relationships
  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle complex employee relations issues and make sound decisions using the appropriate policies and legislation
  • Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and adapting to changing business needs
