Description:
ABOUT WALKER
Walker Industries, a fifth-generation, family-owned company founded in 1887, operates from its base in the Niagara Region with facilities across Canada and the United States. We employ more than 1,200 people in environmental waste management and recovery, renewable energy, paving and construction, aggregates, and emulsions chemistries.
Walker’s vision is to build a sustainable future. For Walker that means working together with neighbours, customers, regulatory authorities and of course employees to safely build and service communities across Canada and the U.S. while investing in their health, educational and cultural well-being.
Walker Aggregates & Construction supports the infrastructure of Ontario through the supply of aggregate, construction materials, and construction services. It is the largest independent aggregate producer in Ontario offering a full range of aggregate products with locations in the Niagara, Essex, Simcoe, Grey and Bruce counties. The company provides construction materials and services across Ontario through its Walker Construction subsidiary with locations in Niagara Falls and Owen Sound.
Responsibilities:
As the Human Resources Business Partner for our Aggregates & Construction division you will work hand in hand with business leaders to evaluate workforce needs and be the point of contact for employee and labour relations for the business. Every day presents new challenges and opportunities to collaborate, innovate, and support our employees. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned, hands-on HR professional who thrives in a multi-tasking environment and is skilled at supporting an hourly unionized workforce to ensure a harmonious and supportive work environment.
As a member of the HRBP team and reporting to the Divisional Human Resources Manager you will be based at our Head Office in Niagara supporting operations in the Niagara and Essex regions. Up to two days working remotely is available, as well as travel to various regional Walker sites as required.
You are skilled at investigations, handling complaints, and union management. You know how to discuss grievances and create productive, harmonious relationships with union representatives. You have experience supporting the non-occupational disability management process.
You will provide guidance on compensation review/planning and the performance management process for salaried positions. You will partner with Supervisors on their recruitment needs and provide expert guidance and support on the selection and assessment of the best talent to meet business needs. In addition, you will support engaging onboarding programs that will make every new hire feel welcome and supported from day one.
You will also coach operations on the imperative health, safety, and compliance practices, ensuring that everyone stays safe and has a great employee experience. If you are excited about the ability to have an impact, drive positive change, and make a difference in the lives of Walker employees, we want to hear from you.
