Position Overview
The HR Coordinator plays a vital role on the HR Team and is primarily responsible for full-cycle recruitment and on-boarding new hires. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and relationship building skills and have a proactive approach when addressing recruitment and on-boarding challenges. The HR Coordinator will work closely with employees and management to foster a positive work environment and ensure the smooth operation of HR processes.
Responsibilities
Recruitment
- Collaborate with hiring managers to identify hiring needs, review job specifications, and create job descriptions for both field and office positions.
- Post job advertisements on job boards including Indeed, college/university portals, LinkedIn, union job-boards, etc.
- Manage candidate information and correspondence through Ceridian Dayforce.
- Create and update job titles and job descriptions in Ceridian Dayforce.
- Review and screen applicant resumes to determine candidate qualifications.
- Coordinate, attend, and facilitate in-person and video conference interviews, when applicable.
- Schedule drive tests, welding tests, and other assessments as part of the selection process.
- Conduct reference checks, employment verifications, and candidate assessments, when necessary.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with external recruitment partners such as college and university placement specialists, recruitment agencies, unions, etc.
- Research and compile benchmarking data for leadership review, ensuring RMC’s compensation and selection practices remain competitive.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports to measure the effectiveness of recruitment strategies and assess market trends.
On-Boarding
- Prepare and extend offers of employment to candidates, file signed offers, and enter new hires into Dayforce.
- On-board new hires including scheduling pre-employment testing, document collection and verification, and scheduling orientation/training.
- Collaborate with hiring managers to prepare on-boarding plans for new hires to ensure a smooth training process, highlight company culture, and provide necessary tools/resources for new hires to be successful.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders such as IT, Safety, Dispatch, and hiring managers to ensure new hires are prepared for training and on-boarding.
- Conduct, deliver, and schedule weekly orientation sessions alongside the Safety Team.
General Human Resources
- Prepare reporting on hiring trends, benchmarking data, employee turnover, and compensation to management.
- Draft employment verification letters, termination letters, and other employee documents.
- Process terminations in Ceridian Dayforce.
- Provide vacation coverage for the HR Advisor.
- Maintain accurate insurance records, submitting required employee documentation to the insurance company and periodically auditing insured employees.
- Promote and participate in all safety initiatives, contributing the safety culture at RMC.
- Provide general assistance and support to the HR & Safety Team when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 1-2+ years experience with full-cycle, high volume recruitment and on-boarding or HR administration.
- Preferably, experience recruiting a wide variety of roles including trades, truck drivers, labourers, students, and administration.
- Diploma or degree in Human Resources or related discipline.
- Adept computer skills including Microsoft Suite of products.
- Experience using a HRIS or ATS software, preferably Ceridian Dayforce.
- Familiarity of Alberta, British Columbia, and Federal Labour Standards.
- Previous experience working in the concrete, construction, or a related industry is an asset.
- Experience working in a unionized environment or with unionized employees is an asset.

Working Conditions
- Hours of work in this position are typically 8AM - 4:30PM, Monday through Friday.
- Overtime during the busy construction season may be required.
- Primary work environment is an office setting.
- Occasional travel to construction/production worksites in the Edmonton area is required.
- When traveling to worksites PPE is required, including CSA approved steel toed boots.
