Description:

WORKFORCE PLANNING & COMPENSATION:

  • Collaborates with unit leadership on developing staffing and workforce plans.
  • Participates in unit leadership team meetings and advises on HR policies, procedures, and best practices, while co-creating and developing new best practices with the unit.
  • Reports and analyzes HR metrics such as hiring, turnover, and employee relations trends to share with unit leadership.Drafts organizational structures for Sr. HR Partner review and communicates reasoning for staffing plan recommendations.
  • Works with unit leaders and business managers to ensure that the planning stages of compensation proposals—such as new or replacement positions, career progressions, market and equity salary adjustments, and supplemental compensation—are budgeted and aligned with University Compensation Guidelines, alongside the Sr. HR Partner.
  • Conducts intakes with supervisor to support the preparation of job descriptions.
  • Analyzes internal compensation data to determine appropriate salary placement.
  • Identifies gaps where compensation practices may not align with guidelines and policy. Collaborates with Sr. HR Partner and Compensation Team to address concerns.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAS):

  • Knowledge of and skill in applying the principles, practices and procedures of HR administration in the areas of recruitment and employment, compensation and classification, leave administration, employee relations, and employee development and training.
  • Knowledge of and skill in interpreting and applying state and federal statues and applicable rules and regulations related to the management of HR.
  • Knowledge of and skill in interpreting and applying HR policies, practices, and guidelines.
  • Skilled in critical thinking and analysis skills with the ability to drive change.
  • Skilled in facilitating meetings and delivering presentations.
  • Skilled in professional writing.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to thrive and pivot in an evolving environment that changes frequently.
  • Ability to problem-solve complex HR issues with unit stakeholders, resulting in impactful solutions that align with unit and University values and goals.
  • Ability to compile, review, and analyze data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through professional level experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience. This should include experience supporting two or more functional areas of HR work (e.g., recruitment and employee relations or other combinations).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience supporting HR work.
  • Experience working with HRIS and ATS systems.
  • Experience in employee relations.
  • Experience supervising HR professionals.
  • Experience working at a higher education institution.
  • HR certification.
  • Experience tracking and coordinating the process for employees on Visas.

Responsibilities:

SUPERVISOR/LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Acts as team lead and may supervise HR Generalist I or II positions.
  • Reviews and approves work of HR Generalist I and II positions.
  • Provides shadowing opportunities and on-the-job training.
  • Manages and monitors daily activities and processes.
  • Contributes to the management of standard operating procedures.

TRANSACTIONAL SUPPORT & OTHER DUTIES:

  • Assists with transactional support and reviews transactional work in university systems including but not limited to the applicant tracking system (ATS), human resources information system (HRIS), and student job platform. This may include duties related to job posting requisitions, offer letters, hiring transactions, employee position or compensation updates.
  • Track Visa expiration dates and check in with unit leaders regarding Visa holders in their area regarding extension process on all Visa types. Works with unit leader in partnership with Arizona Global Office of Employee Immigration Services, Compliance & Contracts on questions related to Visa application and/or permanent residency packet when needed.
  • May have approval authority for some system transactions.
