This role requires frequent travel to out-of-state locations and involves providing expert HR support across various business units. The HR Manager will work closely with local management, ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies while mitigating risks related to labor relations and employee concerns. This role is high-level decision-making, including union contingency planning, legal compliance, and leadership development.
Responsibilities:
Monitor external labor activity, risks, trends, and organizing tactics on a nationwide scale.
Advise and direct local management on concerns related to protected concerted activities, morale issues, and labor relations risks.
Support the PER Manager in developing and executing union organizing contingency plans.
Review investigation documents and report findings to the GM of HR.
Uphold the company’s policy of no retaliation in all labor-related matters.
Provide management with guidance on policies and procedures related to Corrective Action, Performance Improvement Plans (PIP), and Terminations.
Identify potential legal risks related to terminations and advise the GM of HR on appropriate next steps.
Stay informed of local and state employment laws, updating HR leadership on relevant changes and their business impact.
Educate and guide management on employment laws, company policies, ethical standards, and processes in collaboration with HR leadership and Legal teams.
Manage unemployment claims, appeals, and attend hearings as required.
Develop and deliver leadership training programs aimed at enhancing leadership skills and employee relations.
Administer assessment tools and provide feedback to participants to support development.
Source, screen, and hire team members while leading onboarding processes to ensure new hires integrate effectively.
Represent HR in GMI staff meetings and other key leadership discussions.
Participate in special projects as assigned by HR management.
Perform other duties, responsibilities, and tasks as assigned by HR Executive Management.
Note: This position requires frequent travel to various out-of-state locations. Flexibility and a willingness to travel are essential for success in this role.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
A minimum of 10 years of HR generalist experience, particularly in a plant-style setting.
Expertise in all areas of HR, including Employee & Labor Relations, Safety, Workers’ Compensation, and Benefits.
PHR or SPHR certification preferred.
Ability to influence management at all levels and a thorough understanding of business operations.
