We provide crucial support to families in need, those affected by relationship breakdowns, and families seeking to enhance their circumstances. Location: E C Roberts Centre, Portsmouth
Working Hours: 30 - 37hrs per week.
Salary: £32,500 (CIPD level 5 ) full time, although 30 hours may be considered - £ 40,076 pro rata, (CIPD level 7), 30 hours a week.
Hybrid Working; It may be possible for one day a week, working from home, to be negotiated after 6 months probation.
Job Overview:
The Human Resources Lead at The Roberts Centre plays an essential role in shaping the employee experience and supporting the team’s ability to make a meaningful impact on the families we serve. This individual will be responsible for overseeing all HR functions, ensuring best practices are followed, and fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace that aligns with our organisational values. A self-driven and proactive individual, the HR Lead will focus on enhancing the people support framework, ensuring our team remains empowered to deliver life-changing support to vulnerable families.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide proactive, customer-focused HR support across the organisation, serving as the first point of contact for Employee Relations matters, ensuring advice aligns with best practices and Employment Law.
  • Develop, review, and maintain inclusive HR policies that reflect current legislation, ensuring fair and consistent application by management.
  • Manage employee and volunteer records, ensuring GDPR compliance, and oversee payroll, employee data, and organisational structure documentation.
  • Coordinate the recruitment and selection process for employees and volunteers, adhering to Safer Recruitment guidelines, and focusing on the candidate experience.
  • Support managers with performance optimisation, including probationary reviews, capability issues, and sickness absence monitoring.
  • Lead the creation and delivery of an evolving employee training and development programme based on Senior Management Team directives.
  • Develop and implement a volunteer recruitment and retention strategy.
  • Maintain a focus on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging across all people processes and ensure these principles are embedded within the organisation.
  • Produce data-driven reports to support informed decision-making related to people strategy and HR practices.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment by managing health and safety & fire safety programs, acting as a role model for safeguarding, and promoting equitable, non-discriminatory practices.

Our Ideal Candidate will:

  • Be CIPD qualified (Level 5 or above), or currently studying to this level, with relevant HR experience, including knowledge of HR information systems and experience in the charity sector.
  • Have a strong understanding of Employment Law and Employee Relations, with the ability to apply these in real-world scenarios.
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Office, with excellent data management, organisational, and prioritisation skills.
  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to handle sensitive situations compassionately and confidentially.
  • Be fair, approachable, adaptable, and able to work flexibly when needed, demonstrating strong attention to detail and initiative.
