CAA Centre – is one of the largest indoor/outdoor facilities of its kind in Canada with four National East Coast Hockey League-sized ice surfaces and almost one million visitors yearly. The facility hosts hockey games, lacrosse, concerts, trade shows, circus acts, conferences, and many community events.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Reporting to the General Manager, the Human Resources Manager works three days per week on-site and is responsible for providing Human Resources, Payroll, Training, and Health and Safety services to the CAA Centre employees.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • College/University degree/diploma and five to ten years experience in Human Resources.
  • Previous experience processing payroll and year-end using Ceridian Dayforce.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including Employment Standards, Human Rights, Health and Safety, AODA and Payroll legislation.
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy when processing payroll.
  • Ability to operate a computer and related software (word, excel, payroll and timekeeping software).
  • Written communication skills including the ability to compose letters, memos, policies and procedures.
  • Oral communication skills required to conduct training sessions, interview potential employees and conduct investigations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Joint Health and Safety Certification would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities:

Human Resources

  • Provides Human Resources advice, consultation and support in staffing, performance management, employee discipline, recruitment, policies and procedures, training and health and safety.
  • Recruits staff at all levels including, creating job postings, conducting interviews, checking references and preparing offer letters.
  • Co-ordinates staff training delivered by outside providers (First Aid, AED/CPR, WHMIS).
  • Ensures compliance with applicable employment and labour standards, labour relations and occupational health and safety acts, and human rights codes.
  • Maintains management guidelines by researching, drafting and updating and policies and procedures.
  • Maintains confidential employee records.
  • Conducts investigations into allegations of harassment.
  • Maintains attendance and vacation records.

Payroll

  • Responsible for all payroll procedures in Ceridian Dayforce including year end processes
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws and payroll tax obligations
  • Processes biweekly payroll for all salaried and hourly paid employees.
  • Ensures and maintains accuracy of all payroll records.
  • Works with Dayforce support to resolve any system issues.
  • Assists with the annual audit process.

Health and Safety

  • Acts as Chair and Certified member of the Health and Safety Committee.
  • Oversees the reporting of all work-related injuries and illnesses to WSIB.
  • Creates and posts annual meeting and inspection schedule. (Meetings are bimonthly and inspections are conducted monthly.)
