General Description
Scale for Change is seeking a Human Resources Manager, reporting to the Human Resources Director. To help us continue our growth, we’re seeking a skilled Human Resources expert to join our highly skilled team.
As an ideal candidate, you have proven project management experience in a highly dynamic setting. Your organizational, communication and leadership skills are second to none. You enjoy relationship development and finding creative solutions to problems.

Responsibilities

  • This is a mid-level role within a political start-up organization. In this position, you will have the opportunity to:
  • Own and execute strategies to ensure Scale recruits, hires, retains, and mentors quality staff that embody the organization’s values.
  • Manage the talent acquisition process including executing recruitment, interviewing, and hiring.
  • Draft compelling job descriptions, screening and hiring top tier personnel.
  • Work with operations and on the ground teams to develop recruiting strategies that are both state and program specific in order to meet hiring needs.
  • Provides staff support and guidance around HR events, management best practices, and other complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise.
  • Conduct effective, thorough, and objective investigations while maintaining detailed records and updating key stakeholders.
  • Ensure the management of employee files, work assignments, compensation changes, address changes, verifications, benefits administration, and documentation.
  • Assist with the weekly payroll process by ensuring timesheets and office locations are accurate, complete, and timely.
  • Monitor Zendesk and work with state staff to ensure compliance with state specific termination pay laws.
  • Audit employee benefit plans and manage enrollment into and reporting about these plans.
  • Identify ways to streamline our work and troubleshoot issues within our human resources technology. Collaborate with the operations team to fill out and file state notices, employment verifications and garnishments.
  • Assist with the execution of retention and staff development strategy and ensure continued engagement of alumni staff.
  • Lead by example and be willing to jump in to support colleagues in peak moments.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to provide on-site training and support.

Qualifications

This position requires a high level of proficiency in HR policies and practices normally acquired through 3-5 years of progressively responsible work experience in Human Resources. Applicants for this position should bring the following knowledge, abilities, and attitude:

  • Some knowledge of employment law and regulatory compliance at the Federal and State level and to ensure compliance for staff in multiple state and local jurisdictions.
  • Ability to advise staff in high pressure situations with discerning judgment.
  • Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and dedication to Scale’s mission, particularly while handling confidential or sensitive information.
  • Ability to streamline and implement new structures and roles that create speed and efficiency.
  • Willing and able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends in time sensitive situations
  • Experience working with a diverse workforce and with/for communities of color.
