This position requires the candidate to be based in either Yellowknife or Nanaimo, as the role involves direct, in-person interaction with employees. Remote work is not an option, as HR is a critical, hands-on function that supports our workforce across multiple locations.
The ideal candidate will bring a proactive and creative approach to human resources, independently managing recruitment, employee relations, compliance, training, events, and HR systems. They will play a key role in inspiring teams, generating new ideas, and fostering an environment where employees thrive and organizational goals are consistently achieved.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Professional HR certification (preferred).
  • At least five years in HR management, with two or more years in the construction or manufacturing sectors preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian labor laws, particularly in NWT and BC.
  • Proficiency in digital HR solutions, strong organizational abilities, multitasking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Data-driven approach to decision-making and excellent interpersonal skills for cross-departmental collaboration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be based in either Yellowknife or Nanaimo, as this is an in-person, hands-on role.
  • Flexibility to travel frequently between Yellowknife and Nanaimo.
  • Experience managing HR functions for organizations with 60–100 employees across industries.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Utilize AI-driven tools, software, and digital solutions to streamline HR functions, including recruitment, time tracking, performance management, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with leadership to anticipate workforce needs and optimize resource planning.
  • Promote and implement a positive company culture of high achievers who share similar ethics, values, and alignment with the company’s vision and mission.
  • Manage full-cycle recruitment for a variety of roles across industries, including skilled trades, administrative positions, and leadership roles.
  • Create and execute retention strategies to boost employee engagement and reduce turnover.
  • Maintain and enhance HR systems for performance tracking, compliance, and reporting.
  • Monitor and enforce workplace safety and health regulations, particularly in manufacturing and construction.
  • Prepare compliance documentation to ensure audit readiness.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee concerns, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Conduct employee engagement surveys and implement actionable improvements.
  • Design and deliver employee development programs to foster skill growth and leadership potential.
  • Address workplace conflicts to maintain a positive and harmonious environment.
  • Oversee payroll processing and benefits programs, ensuring competitive and equitable compensation structures.
  • Optimize HR processes through digital solutions for time tracking, payroll, and ERP integration.
  • Analyze HR metrics to identify trends, address challenges, and provide strategic recommendations.
  • Foster a culture of safety and compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Design targeted training for construction, manufacturing, and office employees to enhance technical skills and certifications.
  • Enhance talent acquisition metrics, including time-to-hire, offer acceptance rates, and retention KPIs.
  • Develop engaging onboarding programs to set new hires up for success.
  • Lead conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and manage temporary staffing processes for peak project periods while maintaining cost-efficiency.
  • Collaborate with project managers and operations teams to ensure HR initiatives support project milestones and objectives.
  • Innovate recruitment pipelines through digital platforms, social media, and targeted advertising.
