Human Resources Officer (Generalist) TERM through March 30, 2025
School District 35 (Langley) has an exciting term generalist opportunity within our HR team. This position will provide the opportunity to work within a dynamic portfolio within a multi-union organization. The incumbent will enjoy a fast-paced environment that utilizes skills such as problem solving, relationship building, communicating, and taking initiative.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Officer supports HR managers and district principals with the full-scope of HR responsibilities including HR department initiatives, full-cycle recruitment, investigation support, performance management support, and attendance & wellness support.
REQUIREMENTS:
Diploma in Human Resources Management and a minimum of 3 years of directly related similar experience in a unionized environment
CPHR designation or candidate status is an asset
Demonstrated knowledge of applicable legislation and ability to interpret and support collective agreement language
Proven ability to abide by and maintain strict confidentiality
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and ability contribute to effective working relationships
Proven ability to work independently under pressure to meet tight deadlines with minimal supervision; prioritize and take initiative
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and perform effectively as a member of a team
Excellent analytical skills and a proven ability to work through problems
Demonstrated ability to multi-task, follow-up and prioritize the needs of the business groups
Ability to attend off-site events or meetings; possess and maintain a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicl
Responsibilities:
Conduct full-cycle recruitment including job posting, establishing ad plans, applicant screening, interviews, selection, and communication to applicants.
Participate in Labour-Management meetings
Support HR Managers and District Principals with grievance meetings, responses, and documentation
Lead and/or participate in assigned joint committees
Lead and support various recruitment and onboarding activities
Respond to, and provide communication regarding, contracted leave requests
Collaborate with other district departments on various projects and initiatives
Communicate effectively (both verbal and written) to management, employees, and union representatives
Appropriately document employee relations issues regarding employment practices.
Additional related duties, tasks or special projects as assigned
