JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: Human Resources Specialist - Safety & Risk - Part Time - No Benefits

This is a Part Time position and does not include benefits.

  • All applications received will be screened by the Human Resources office. Those applicants meeting the specified qualification and additional screening criteria will be referred for a hiring interview. The Human Resource Office will continue to consider qualified candidates as needed until the position is filled.

Starting Pay: $17.20 - $19.73 per hour, based on qualifications
Schedule: Monday - Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (Flexible)
About the Role:
Are you passionate about building safety and risk management functions from the ground up? We’re looking for a proactive and adaptable Human Resources Specialist to support the growth of the safety and risk management programs at the county. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, from drafting policies and building trainings to managing an SDS database and contributing to the development of a Risk Management Information System (RMIS).
This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, managing their own workload, and contributing to meaningful initiatives that improve safety and compliance across multiple departments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing and drafting safety and risk management policies.
  • Build and maintain safety trainings and educational programs.
  • Help establish and manage the county’s Safety Data Sheet (SDS) database following a county-wide chemical inventory.
  • Contribute to the development and setup of a Risk Management Information System (RMIS).
  • Provide administrative support in safety and risk management, including organizing appointments and meetings.
  • Work independently on various projects while maintaining regular check-ins with the Safety and Risk Manager to ensure alignment.
  • Handle HR-related tasks such as data management, policy compliance, and general support as needed.

Qualifications:

  • At least two (2) years of college-level coursework in industrial hygiene, business, human resources, legal studies, political science, or a related field.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience in safety, risk management, or HR office work.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Preferred Skills and Traits:

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative on a variety of tasks and projects.
  • Comfortable managing schedules, setting up appointments, and working autonomously.
  • Excellent organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and a willingness to adapt to new challenges.
  • Proficient in basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office, Excel).
  • Strong communication skills for both independent work and team collaboration.
