JOB SUMMARY
For the 2025 winter semester we will have four unpaid Co-op placement opportunities for students enrolled in the St. Lawrence College Human Resources Program. During this time each student will work with an experienced and knowledgeable HR professional who will ensure a mixture of interesting project work, as well as day-to-day client support activities.
Details of each opportunity are below. During the application process you will be asked which opportunity interests you in order of preference.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Opportunity #1 - Smith Engineering:
Reporting to the Manager, Organizational Development and Engagement, this role supports the Smith Engineering Human Resources department. The student is responsible for supporting our faculty’s clerical and administrative responsibilities, along with activities involved in data analytics, strategic organizational development and employee programs to ensure they align with Smith Engineering’s strategic direction.
SPECIAL SKILLS:
- Administrative and clerical support in record keeping, with strong attention to detail
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and other applications such as MS Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Survey Monkey, etc.
- Ability to build rapport and credibility with clients at all levels, both inside and outside of the organization.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Highly proficient in using web conferencing applications, including both Zoom and Teams, for interactive virtual facilitation sessions.
Opportunity #2 - Facilities:
The Facilities Department at Queen’s University proudly builds, maintains and improves campus facilities to create a safe and welcoming environment in support of teaching, learning and research. Facilities welcomes the opportunity to host a SLC human resources student placement.
Working under the mentorship of the Director, Human Resources, Facilities, the SLC student will be provided with the opportunity to be involved with employee lifecycle management by participating in the recruitment process, supporting the review and updating of the onboarding process, conducting stay interviews and exit interviews, and supporting equity and diversity initiatives. In addition, the SLC student will be introduced to other aspects of the HR profession such as HR administration, employee and labour relations, and training and development.
The SLC student will gain a practical understanding of a day in the life of an HR generalist with a focus on employee lifecycle management and will have the opportunity to influence HR initiatives though the lens of a student and future job seeker.

Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, you will contribute to Queen’s University Library’s recruitment, onboarding, employee engagement, and recognition initiatives and provide general administration support to the HR Team.
JOB SUMMARY
- Support with the recruitment of student, staff, and unionized positions; sort and categorize applications, conduct pre-screens and schedule interviews
- Contribute to the application of Human Resources policies and procedures
- Assist the HR team with the completion of pre-employment requirements and new hire orientations
- Collaborate with HR Director on research and report writing for the HR department
- Assist with planning of the Annual service recognition events
- Support new employee’s onboarding program
- Working within a team, aim to meet or exceed client service expectations and provide project support at needed.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Currently enrolled in a Diploma program specializing in HR
- Demonstrated working knowledge Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
- Strong interpersonal skills and a customer service orientation
- Effective verbal, and written communication skills
- Highly developed organization skills
Responsibilities:
- Works closely with the Staffing Officer to support document management and record maintenance
- Supports the Manager, Organizational Development and Engagement with programs and initiatives that adopt retention including succession planning, recognition programs, learning and development plans and change management
- Works closely with the Human Resources Advisor on data analytics, and people soft queries
