Description:

The Department of Cancer Prevention and Control in the Cancer Institute at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a (Hybrid) Program Specialist.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The position is located within the Department of Cancer Prevention and Control (CPC) at the WVU Cancer Institute (WVUCI), and duties may include other CPC or WVUCI projects and responsibilities. CPC serves all of West Virginia and this position will require travel throughout the state. Work effort enhances state, regional, and national partnerships, delivery of service, community engagement, and WVUCI image.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Managing and/or sustaining a variety of internal and external partnerships.
  • Designing, developing, implementing, and managing internal and external resources including forms, trainings, public education materials, patient navigation resources, events, and communications.
  • Various support duties, responding to inquiries, and resolving matters of moderate complexity.
  • Some decision making and resourcefulness within available guides and precedents.

Responsibilities:

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Participate in the implementation of the mission, vision, and strategic plan for the WVU Cancer Institute and the Department of Cancer Prevention and Control.
  • Function as a member of the CPC staff and participate in staff meetings, required conferences, training seminars, program meetings, regular team meetings, etc. Includes conferences and training seminars provided by the WVU Cancer Institute, Mountains of Hope (MOH) Cancer Coalition, and other relevant entities. Complete all required WVU trainings and certifications.
  • Assist in the development and dissemination of cancer information through the development of resources such as handouts, flyers, presentations, internal and external communications, videos, photographs, posters, infographics, social media, websites, etc. These materials are relevant to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide training and technical assistance for professionals including doctors, nurse practitioners, nurses, and medical assistants about screening guidelines, available programs in West Virginia, and program requirements.
  • Assist in the development of articles, abstracts, and posters to promote programmatic work and outreach of CPC.
  • Complete data collection and the input of data, assist in the development and implementation of strategies to address weaknesses, and reinforce positive practices of partners.
  • Work with a variety of internal and external partners.
  • Collaborate with other CPC staff and programs to extend the reach of CPC.
  • Coordinate internal and external programmatic meetings such as steering and advisory boards as needed to acquire stakeholder engagement. This includes developing an agenda, recording meeting minutes, and disseminating meeting minutes as appropriate.
  • Assist in applying for additional funding opportunities for CPC projects.
  • Complete accurate documentation and reporting of program information.
  • Assist with other CPC program activities as requested by leadership.
  • Represent the WVU Cancer Institute and/or the Department of Cancer Prevention and Control at sate, regional, and national meetings and conferences.
    Qualifications
    Education and Experience:
    Master’s degree in appropriate discipline: public health, social work, counseling, communications, marketing, health education and 6 months of experience in program support role (cancer control preferred), event planning, group dynamics, maintaining internal and external partnerships, and program assessment
    or
    Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline and 2 years of experience in program support role (cancer control preferred), event planning, group dynamics, maintaining internal and external partnerships, and program assessment
    or
    an equivalent combination of education and experience.
