Description:

Tata Steel Minerals Canada Limited (TSMC), headquartered in Montreal, operates an iron ore mining and processing facility in the provinces of Newfoundland and Labrador and of Quebec. TSMC is part of the Tata group of companies, one of the world’s 10 largest steel producers and a Fortune 500 company.
TSMC is currently seeking an Impact and Benefits Agreement (IBA) Implementation Coordinator to join its Community Relations team. In this full-time temporary position, the incumbent will work a Monday to Friday schedule, with some flexibility required, and on a hybrid model consisting of 3 days/week in the office and 2 days/week working from home. Occasional travel to our mine site, located near Schefferville QC, may be required.
The successful candidate, who will report to the Head - Community Relations, will be mainly responsible for ensuring the implementation and administration of the many aspects of the Company’s Impact and Benefit Agreements and other community agreements and Government requirements relating to community engagement.
Please note this is a 6 month contract position to March 2025, with the possibility of extension or permanent employment thereafter.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acquire a thorough understanding of the Company’s Impact and Benefit Agreements, Cooperation Agreement and Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec Government requirements as they pertain to Aboriginal engagement, employment, training and contracting.
  • Ensure that the commitments in said agreements are properly and effectively carried out and administered;
  • Contribute to maintaining positive relations with the Aboriginal communities of Matimekush-Lac John and Kawawachikamach, as well as with the members of these communities who work at the TSMC mine site;
  • Oversee the work of the Assistant – Community Relations;
  • With the Assistant – Community Relations:
  • Work closely with TSMC site managers and Aboriginal community employment offices and educational institutions to support the recruitment, training, professional advancement and retention of Aboriginal workers;
  • Organize, facilitate, translate and record discussions at committee meetings and other ad hoc meetings and ensure follow-up with TSMC departments and with the Communities on issues raised.
  • Work closely with the business development divisions in Aboriginal communities to ensure communication and participation in TSMC business opportunities;
  • Prepare reports both internally and for external parties;
  • Ensure a TSMC presence at community events;
  • Ensure the facilitation of cultural awareness sessions at the mine site;
  • Provide support with conflict resolution matters involving Aboriginal employees that may arise at the mine site with a view to finding peaceful and collaborative solutions.

Desired Profile

  • Background in Communications, Human Resources, Native Studies, Administration or any other discipline deemed appropriate with relevant experience will be considered a strong asset;
  • Experience and interest in working in a northern mining environment;
  • Experience in coordinating multiple and simultaneous activities;
  • Excellent communication, networking and conflict-resolution skills;
  • Demonstrated ability for cultural sensitivity and diplomacy;
  • Ability to communicate in English and French or Innu/Naskapi, both written and oral;
  • Proficiency in written communications, report preparation, Excel spreadsheets, budgeting and PowerPoint presentations;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
