JOB SUMMARY:

PIC Group has a great opportunity for an experienced Instrumentation Controls & Electronics (IC&E) Technician for a generating station located in California. The IC&E Technician reports directly to the Maintenance Manager, and is responsible for installing, maintaining, testing, repairing and troubleshooting the instrumentation, controls, and electrical systems in the Plant associated with the facilities. The IC&E Technician is a “journeymen” level position, involving subject matter expert level knowledge in instrumentation, controls, low and medium voltage switchgear, transformers, generators, protective relays, and motor control centers.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Demonstrated experience with plant mechanical and electrical equipment, including natural gas-fired combustion turbines, heat recovery steam generators (HRSG), control systems, and emissions control systems.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical equipment, electronics, controls, and instrumentation systems.
  • Ability to calibrate instrumentation and control systems, including analytical equipment.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting PLCs, variable frequency drives, motor control centers, transformers, and generators.
  • Experience using MP2 or other CMMS, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to read and work on blueprints and technical documents.
  • Work with hazardous materials may be required.
  • PLC experience a plus
  • Prior experience with wire 480 volt or greater
  • Must be able to troubleshoot electrical systems and calibrate instrumentation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Duties require walking, standing for extended periods of time, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, and lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs. Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
  • The frequent use of protective equipment (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, etc.) may be required.
  • The position requires working in different shifts with the possibility of overtime, weekend, and holiday work; as required by schedules, workloads, and plant conditions.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program and two years’ work experience as a technician in a related industry desirable.
  • 4+ years’ experience as a technician with increasing responsibility in a related industry may be substituted for the above requirement.
  • A valid state issued driver’s license is required.

    Compensation range per hour: $38 - $50

Responsibilities:

  • Calibrate, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and install plant instrumentation, control systems, and electrical equipment.
  • Perform maintenance on motor control centers, motor-operated valves, generators, excitation equipment, and motors.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance on major plant equipment and emergency backup systems.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain DC backup power systems, process controls, PLCs, and turbine-control equipment.
  • Utilize the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to log maintenance activities, including time, materials used, and equipment issues.
  • Maintain accurate records, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment.
  • Provide training and guidance to team members on instrumentation, control, and electrical systems.
  • Coordinate with contractors and other departments for repairs, maintenance tasks, and small construction projects.
  • Interpret technical drawings, sketches, prints, and specifications as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with plant safety and environmental protocols, including chemical handling, energy systems, and fire suppression procedures.
  • Perform plant electrical switching and lock-out/tag-out (LOTO) procedures in alignment with best practices and safety standards.
  • Communicate effectively with personnel, customers, and vendors to ensure efficient plant operations.
  • Actively participate in the Site Safety Committee and lead monthly safety meetings.
  • Identify and mitigate safety hazards while ensuring compliance with site safety procedures.
  • Respond to scheduled and unscheduled overtime and off-hour call-ins as required.
