ABOUT THE JOB
The Inclusion Specialist will oversee development of a robust process for working with families of youth with special needs to determine their unique needs and tailor supports and accommodations to maximize their success over the school year. This position will meet with parents and families to discuss and strategize how to best meet their child’s unique needs, in accordance with all behavioral modifications, IEPs, SSTs, 504s and all other interventions and previous accommodation plans. The Inclusion Specialist will receive training and implement Restorative Practices, Response to Intervention, and Behavior Modification to be able to
support youth in a safe and constructive way. The Inclusion Specialist will also work with Youth Development staff in helping youth to properly navigate physical, emotional, social, or behaviorally challenging experiences. This role will include helping to develop successful family and school partnerships; offer supports as a coach/liaison on implementing effective inclusion strategies to boost student achievement; work closely with the after school and summer staff teams; and gathering and synthesizing resources for community programs and families.
Mission YMCA is seeking Inclusion Specialists for the After School Programs at:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 21 years or older
- Associate’s degree or higher, or High School diploma/equivalent, plus any of following:
- Completed 48 college units verified by transcript
- Passed CA Basic Education Skills Test (CBEST)
- Passed District Instructional Aide Exam
- 2 or more years of experience working with elementary school youth
- Highly motivated to provide quality program opportunities to youth
- Team player
- Knowledge or expertise in youth development
- Comfortable leading physical activities with youth
- Must be available daily Monday-Friday during school day and after school program hours (9:30 am-6:00 pm, shifts vary)
- Must be willing to participate in bi-annual evaluations and supervision meetings as needed
- Current YMCA approved CPR and First Aid certification (training available upon hire)
- TB Test clearance
- Fingerprint background check clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Child Development or related field
- Specialized knowledge of Inclusion, De-escalation, and Socio-Emotional Learning
- Bi-lingual in Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, or other languages
- Connections in the local community
