JOB DESCRIPTION:

We are seeking an experienced Industrial Relations (IR) Specialist to join our dynamic retail chain. As an IR Specialist, you will play a key role in managing employee relations and ensuring compliance with South African labor laws. You will oversee disciplinary processes, handle disputes, and represent the company at the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation, and Arbitration (CCMA) when necessary.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Law, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience as an IR Specialist, ideally within the retail sector.
  • Strong knowledge of South African labor laws and regulations, including the Labour Relations Act.
  • Proven experience representing employers at the CCMA.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Ability to work independently and handle sensitive matters with discretion.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage and oversee disciplinary hearings, grievances, and disputes within the company.
  • Represent the company at the CCMA during conciliation and arbitration processes.
  • Provide expert advice and support to management on IR matters.
  • Ensure adherence to labor laws and company policies, particularly in the areas of employee discipline, dismissals, and union negotiations.
  • Conduct investigations and facilitate conflict resolution.
  • Draft and review employment contracts, policies, and procedures.
  • Liaise with external legal counsel as needed to manage complex IR issues.
  • Train managers and staff on IR best practices, policies, and labor law compliance.
  • Keep up-to-date with changes in employment legislation and ensure company policies reflect legal requirements.
