Description:

The Infant Feeding Lead for SCBU will be responsible for p romoting UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative with specific responsibility to provide managerial support and clinical expertise within the Neonatal Unit regarding all aspects of infant feeding. Will also b e responsible for the delivery of all training and education of all health professionals and also provide specialist advice and support to parents/carers with feeding issues. And finally, l ead the implementation and evaluation of UNICEF BFI accreditation, ensuring best practice standards and the ability to gain full accreditation.
The post holder is expected to work in collaboration with the multidisciplinary Team, and more specifically with the Family Integrated Care Lead and the Infant Feeding Lead for Maternity.
The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the UNICEF Baby Friendly accreditation process and for implementing change and improvement with all aspects related to Infant Feeding in SCBU, working collaboratively with Maternity Infant Feeding Lead and the multidisciplinary team in the unit.
We are a level 1 neonatal unit, who delivers special care and transitional care to infants from 32 weeks gestation and onwards. Our Team is very motivated to always provide the best standard of care to all our Families and we are continuously improving our practice. As an example we are working towards our Family Integrated Care accreditation with BLISS.
We are part of Dorset County Hospital, which is a general district hospital, where care is provided to families across West Dorset.
Collaborate and work in partnership to promote, implement and maintain UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative culture across all aspects of neonatal care, with the aim to achieve full accreditation for the Neonatal Unit, as per the Family Integrated Care ethos. This includes liaison with the local neonatal and maternity services (LMNS); community neonatal, maternity, and paediatric services; network neonatal and maternity team, health visiting, social services; and national groups where necessary to achieve National/local guidelines and accreditation.
Ensure the service has a written guidance regarding all aspects of Infant Feeding and all staff are fully aware of the standards required and are provided with timely feedback for both positive feedback and where any concerns may exist.
To initiate and educate around the principles of Infant feeding, in line with UNICEF BFI.
Work alongside FICare leads to support the unit in achieving and maintaining UNICEF Baby Friendly Accreditation and promote breast feeding initiatives across the perinatal service.
