REQUIREMENTS TO BE A PRESCHOOL TEACHER:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Current state approved first-aid certification
  • Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and negative TB test, must possess or obtain prior to working in ratio.
  • Minimum 6 months’ experience working with infants in a licensed early learning center.
  • Two years of qualifying experience in childcare field an 6 credit hours in the childcare field or 60 documented training hours.
  • CDA, associate degree and/or currently enrolled in an accredited bachelor’s program (preferred).
  • Possess mature judgement and sound decision making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with members, peers and supervisor.
  • Must be observant, safety conscious and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.

Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES OF A PRESCHOOL TEACHER:

  • Ensure the proper care and supervision of infants (6 wks to 12 months) in a group childcare setting.
  • Follow all safety guidelines for infant care to include; diapering, feeding, sleep safety, developmentally appropriate activities and maintaining a safe environment.
  • Responsible for completing and maintaining with all required training, in-service training, and certifications.
  • Understands and maintains ADHS state licensing rules pertaining to infants and regulations and YMCA childcare program standards.
  • Positively interacts with infants and engages in developmentally appropriate activities throughout the day.
  • Completes daily care logs, positively communicate with parents to support the care and development of their infant.
  • Maintains cleanliness and sanitation of the infant room, supplies, equipment and materials.
  • Posts daily all required information in assigned place at program site.
  • Provides immediate support and supervision of assigned assistant teachers in the infant room to ensure high-quality infant care, communicating any issues to the Early Learning Director.
  • Communicates positively and effectively with supervisor and peers.
  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures. Completes incident and accident reports, as necessary.
  • Attends staff meetings and training courses as required.
  • Incorporates the mission, philosophy, and 4 core values of the YMCA in all communication with participants and co-workers.
