Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Band 7 Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) to join the IPC team. The IPC CNS will work in conjunction with staff across the UCLH sites to improve IPC practice and reduce hospital acquired infections.
The post holder will provide leadership, mentorship, and line management to junior members of the team as well as peer support to the other band 7 IPC CNS within the team.
This post requires collaborative working with the IPC team and with all healthcare personnel across the Trust. Working alongside the IPC Consultant Nurses, Senior Nurses, IPC CNSs, Director of Infection Prevention & Control (DIPC) and the IPC Team, the post holder will shape IPC policy and guidance ensuring implementation into practice.
The IPC service includes the Trust wide management of isolation prioritisation to aid patient flow ensuring patient safety is maintained. Working alongside the coordination and operational services to review and advise on decontamination, building regulation compliance and the development of Trust wide education and audit programmes amongst others.

The post holder will be expected to spend 70% of time within the clinical areas providing education & training and advisory service; offering support and advice to staff clinically and 30% on project work and classroom-based teaching programmes.

  • Providing and supporting a visible and proactive approach to the prevention, surveillance, investigation, and control of infection. This includes the review, formulation, implementation and education of evidence-based infection prevention and control practices (IPC), in line with national and Trust policy and guidance.
  • Providing expert advice to multi-professional colleagues, patients and carers on IPC
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of measures to reduce the incidence of infection.
  • Work collaboratively to develop systems and processes to support the organisation’s objectives relating to IPC
  • Working with clinical teams across the Trust to implement, monitor and measure compliance relating to infection prevention and control.
  • Take a lead in the clinical audit process, including the evaluation and disseminating learning outcomes.
  • Developing and delivering educational and training programmes to all disciplines within the Trust.
  • Acting as a strong patient advocate, providing visible compassionate leadership, and ensuring that the care of patients reflects best clinical standards.
  • Leading on developing and reviewing Trust infection prevention and control policies and guidelines as directed by the nurse consultants/ deputy DIPCs.
  • Lead the day to day running of the IPC team under the guidance of the Senior IPCNs.
  • Act as a line manager and mentor for junior members of the IPC team.
