Description:
The post holder, in conjunction with the Lead Nurse and other members of the Infection Prevention and Control Team, will be responsible for:
§ The development of the Infection Prevention and Control service in line with local and national policy to meet the needs of the Acute and Community Trust.
§ Providing clinical advice and knowledge about the prevention, management, monitoring and control of infection to Trust staff.
§ The post holder will initially be based in the specialty of Infection Prevention and Control Corporate Nursing Team
§ The post holder will be an experienced practitioner with relevant clinical experience within their own specialty who uses specialist knowledge and skills to support the prevention, management, monitoring and control of infection to Trust staff.
§ The post holder will work under the supervision of the Lead Nurse Infection Prevention and Control
As part of the multi-disciplinary team, and under the direction and supervision of a senior nurse and/or consultant Infection Prevention the post-holder will utilise their specialist knowledge and skills to:
§ under-take relevant clinical assessment, reviewing clinical signs and results to support the patient’s on-going treatment plan as required
§ perform delegated interventions against specialty protocol, eg: management of outbreaks of infection.
§ request routine investigations as specialty protocol allows
§ integrate both pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatment in patient care/management plans
§ produce accurate and complete documentation and patient records consistent with legislation, policies and procedures
§ provide and receive highly complex information requiring persuasive, motivational, reassuring and empathetic communication skills to maximise co-operation with care and treatment programmes
§ anticipate barriers to communication and establish methods of overcoming these, ensuring patients and significant others are kept fully informed.
§ act as a resource for staff advising on local, Trust and national policy, procedures and guidelines in relation to Infection Prevention and Control ensuring patient safety and clinical governance.
§ Carry out environmental sampling for infectious organisms following incidents of infection and liaise with the Microbiology Department to arrange testing dissemination and interpretation of results.
