Description:

Mount Carmel Community Hospital is a Short Stay bed facility, that provides ongoing medical monitoring, rehabilitation or re-enablement to patients following an acute hospital stay. Mount Carmel Community Hospital is there to help patients with their expressed desire to make a speedy recovery and return home.
We are now recruiting for an Infection Prevention Control Nurse for Mount Carmel Community Hospital in Churchtown, Co. Dublin.

NOTE

Given the nature of the work, it must be stressed that maximum flexibility is required. This job description does not attempt to detail every activity. Specific tasks and objectives will be agreed with the post holder periodically by the Director of Nursing

Qualifications/Skills/Experience required

  • Registered on the NMBI live register (active pin).
  • Recognised Infection Control qualification. Certification in specialized practice area preferred
  • Two years’ demonstratable experience as an Infection Prevention and Control Nurse
  • Experience in an acute and/or older persons healthcare setting.
  • Evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Excellent Leadership, Organisational and Communication skills.
  • Sound decision making ability.
  • Ability to work well and promote a team environment.
  • Results driven

Responsibilities:

To promote and maintain the highest attainable standard of nursing care within the hospital. This role reports to and is responsible to the Director of Nursing.
The post holder will provide support and specialist advice to all disciplines of staff, patients and members of the public regarding the prevention of infection. The role will help to contain and reduce the incidence of infection in Mount Carmel Community Hospital (MCCH) through risk assessment, surveillance, audit, intervention and education.
The postholder will provide and maintain comprehensive, efficient and effective infection prevention and control service within MCCH. The post holder will promote patient safety and ensure a high quality of nursing practice through the prevention, surveillance, investigation and control of infection, incorporating policy development, audit, research and staff education.
The role is pivotal in service planning, coordinating and managing activities and resources for infection prevention and control within the clinical areas. The main responsibilities in relation to infection prevention and control are quality assurance, resource management, staffing and staff development, practice development, facilitating communication and professional/clinical leadership.
The post holder will contribute to patient’s nursing care through prevention, surveillance, investigation, liaison, education, research and control of health care acquired infection (HCAI)

Responsibilites

  • Conducts surveillance prevention measures, audits, staff education, analysis and management of data relative to infections
  • Monitors and evaluates quality and appropriateness of program activities to ensure compliance with standards and regulations
  • Manages data collection/analysis/and maintenance for hospital wide infection control and clinical employee health programs
  • Provides support services for hospital wide infection control
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify infectious disease processes
  • Survey and investigate epidemiologic events
  • Use evidence-based practice and regulatory requirements to prevent and control the transmission of infectious agents
  • Maintains collaborative accountability for ensuring Employee Health and Safety is met
  • Organises staff training on any new policy and procedures used in the clinics after approval by the governing body
