Job Summary
The main role of the Information Developer is to design, develop, and ensure usability and accessibility of NAV CANADA Safety and Quality technical and operational publications and to manage the maintenance of our documentation. Specific knowledge required for this position includes information architecture, project management, technical writing, SharePoint Online and facilitation services.
Quality assurance is integral to this position as a primary requirement is to ensure that operational publications adhere to standards and regulations defined by NAV CANADA, Transport Canada, and ICAO, and that safety is ensured at all times.

Job Description
The current vacancy is fulltime and can be located at one of the following locations:
- Moncton ACC
- Gander ACC
- Montreal ACC
- Toronto ACC
- National Capital Region (Ottawa)
- Winnipeg ACC
- Edmonton ACC
- Vancouver ACC
If located outside of these areas, other flexible work arrangements are possible.
Key Accountabilities:
- Designs and develops Safety and Quality technical information products using a standardized approach to information development (requirements, analysis, design, development, QA, production, maintenance) while ensuring that all information is clear and concise, easily retrieved, and technically accurate.
- Consults with and provides recommendations to specialists, subject-matter experts, management, and other stakeholders to ensure that requirements are satisfied, and that content complies with industry-standard conventions and best practices.
- Conducts user needs analysis, writes, edits and performs quality control of content to ensure effective information products.
- Ensures Safety and Quality documentation adheres to compliance (regulatory) and conformance (internal) requirements.
- Suggests standards, rules, and authoring guidelines to produce consistent, repeatable, and easy-to-maintain information products; provides recommendations to improve usability and presentation.
- Works with other corporate groups to ensure that all branding standards and corporate templates are used, as required.
- Uses recognized project management practices to set schedules, define objectives and resources, prepare project plans, track and manage progress, and deliver on time. This ensures consistency, quality, and user acceptance.
- Ensures robust content reuse, reducing production time and costs. When appropriate, creates a single, definitive source for output to multiple media and disciplines.
- Investigates new communication tools and methods for designing, developing, and delivering state-of-the-art information products to make NAV CANADA a world leader in information delivery.
- Helps develop, demonstrate, and support tools and processes for peers to improve communications and enhance collaboration.
- Supports Safety and Quality teams during meetings, as required.
- Manages Safety and Quality document storage, publication, access, and accessibility.
- Develops, as required, and maintains Safety and Quality’s presence on the intranet, the extranet and content on the external Company site.
- Develops and maintains, as required, Safety and Quality’s file structure for organizing and maintaining documentation.
- Knowledge of scripting/programming languages including HTML, XML, JavaScript, DAX and VBA to create and maintain web-based tools an asset.
Education:
Graduated with a degree/diploma/certification from a recognized degree program with specialization in a related field of study. Specialization may be obtained through a combination of education, training or experience.
Experience:
- Training or experience in the design of technical information.
- Training or experience in information architecture.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in information development indicating comprehensive expertise in the field of technical communication.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge and understanding of theories, principles and practices associated with communications, including writing, editing, publishing, multi-media product planning, development, evaluation, and quality control.
- Knowledge and understanding of IM / IT methods, including SharePoint and/or website design, development and maintenance.
- Knowledge and understanding of research and data analysis methods / techniques, and of project planning techniques.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the company policies, standards and guidelines governing the development and publication of NAV CANADA information products.
Abilities:
- Able to analyze data to identify relationships, errors, and gaps.
- Able to research issues and develop solutions, including gathering and organizing information from multiple sources.
- Able to convert complex technical information into clear, concise, plain language.
- Able to adapt to changing priorities; work under minimal supervision; work in a team and individual settings; and handle multiple concurrent tasks.
- Able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
