SPECIALIZED SKILLS

  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience providing support for Windows Server Operating System.
  • Requires one (1) year of professional experience supporting Windows desktop/laptop operating systems and desktop software such as Microsoft Office products.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two years of college with course work in computer science or directly related fields; or satisfactory completion of an agency sponsored training program.
  • Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program shall have the stated requirements of this classification waived by successful completion of specific proficiency tests and training programs.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prefers one (1) year of professional experience providing support for Windows Server Operating System.
  • Prefers one (1) year of professional experience supporting Windows desktop/laptop operating systems and desktop software such as Microsoft Office products.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with experienced systems analyst to complete the following: performs midrange server administration and systems maintenance; assists with server systems configurations and build; administers system security of Microsoft servers; assists in software distribution of Microsoft network using application software installation scripts, procedures, and programs; assists with building, testing, implementing, writing documentation, and performing maintenance of midrange Windows server hardware and software systems; implements required fixes to correct security problems defined through diagnostics; documents problems and corrective actions through Change Management systems; performs routine maintenance on server and networking hardware which includes checking for failed components.
  • Works with a senior analyst in the build, configuration, testing, installation, documentation, and maintenance of midrange servers and backup/recovery systems. Assists to ensure the configurations comply with Agency security considerations, performance requirements, and established standards.
  • Installs and configures new server hardware and network operating systems; assists with the maintenance of server operating system patches, security patches, and service packs; assists with providing support for server functions including configuration, installation and support of Windows Server, Windows Active Directory (AD), virtualized servers, network appliances, network router/switches, WiFi, DNS, DHCP, FTP, antivirus, multi-factor authentication, and other system utilities. Lifts and moves computers to new locations. Travels in the performance of duties. Serves on an on-call basis in emergency situations.
  • Gains experience and knowledge by working on projects using various hardware/software which may include Windows Server Operating System, virtual server platform, routing and switching, MS Office 365, MS Visio, Windows PC Operating System, and Windows compatible PC’s and laptops.
  • Travels to attend formal training classes if not offered remotely provided by State of Illinois agencies or other private vendors as approved by the Division and Section management.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
