Description:
POSITION DETAILS
The University of Lethbridge Information Technology Services department is seeking applications for the position of Infrastructure Architect with the Network and Telecom team. This is a full-time continuing position located at our Lethbridge campus. While flexible or hybrid work options may be possible, this position will typically work at least 3 days a week on the Lethbridge campus.
This position will be a key member of the network team responsible for underlying infrastructure such as data centre design and operation, network design, strategy, and technical direction. The Infrastructure Architect provides high-level leadership and planning for IT (Information Technology) infrastructure direction and architecture on the university campus. This position is the senior technical resource and as such provides advanced network analysis in situations involving complex technologies where greater skills and experience are needed. The position requires teamwork, quick thinking under stress and an eye towards innovative solutions.
Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure, the incumbent will be responsible for overall infrastructure architecture, analysis, management, and support.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Computing Science or a related discipline and several years of experience in network, telephony, system administration or related fields. Professional designations related to networking are an asset.
The University of Lethbridge primarily uses Cisco products across the campus. A suitable combination of education and experience will be considered. The incumbent must be highly organized, have excellent attention to detail, effective communication skills, and have experience managing a high volume of diverse activities under tight deadlines. Additionally, the incumbent must be an innovative self-starter able to work with minimal supervision and possess the ability to troubleshoot problems quickly and logically.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
Responsibilities:
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Overall “big picture” design from an Infrastructure perspective
- Senior network and telecom technical resource
- Network and telephony design
- Data centre design and day-to-day oversight
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Software defined networking
- Providing guidance, training, and mentoring for other staff including the Systems and Security teams as well as other distributed IT teams across the campus to implement all infrastructure architecture following industry best practices
- Provide both short- and long-term technical planning and direction
- Facility management in all IT data centres and communications rooms
