Responsibilities:

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

As the Infrastructure Engineer, you will contribute to the management, inspection, surveillance and maintenance of water infrastructure in the Bow River basin. You will lead and provide technical expertise in dam and canal surveillance, monitoring, maintenance and emergency preparedness programs. This includes overseeing the Annual Engineering Inspection and Geotechnical Instrumentation programs, and supporting major repair and capital projects. Your role involves close collaboration with other regional branches, stakeholders, and technical experts to ensure the safety, stability, and reliable operation of water infrastructure assets.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Delivery of the surveillance and monitoring program for critical dam and canal water infrastructure project. The focus is primarily on leading the geotechnical instrumentation and field inspection activities, as well as data review, analysis

    and reporting to ensure dam safety and reliable operation.

  • Engineering and project management expertise in support of preventative and major maintenance projects as well as capital planning.

  • Review of feasibility studies, engineering assessments and design projects.
  • Working in a diverse tea to identify, track and follow-up on infrastructure deficiencies including development of corrective action work orders to ensure projects are managed to a high standard and service life is optimized.
  • Reviewing and updating of project operation, maintenance and surveillance (OM&S) manuals, and assisting with the development of emergency preparedness, response and surveillance plans.
  • Engage with local authorities, irrigation districts, and other stakeholders to facilitate communication, collaboration, and project delivery.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS ROLE:

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree majoring in Civil, Geotechnical or closely related Engineering discipline.

  2. A minimum of 5 years professional experience related to water management infrastructure (dams, canals, hydraulic structures) with extensive field work experience

  • Professional experience shall include any of the following specific areas:

  • Managing and implementing surveillance and monitoring programs for water dam, canal and related hydraulic structures.

  • Reviewing and analyzing geotechnical instrumentation data, managing field data collection programs, conducting asset performance assessments and technical reporting.
  • Operations and maintenance programs for water infrastructure projects.
  • Conducting water infrastructure engineering inspections and leading follow-up corrective actions.
  • Formal Dam Safety Reviews and annual performance reporting for water dam projects.
  • Experience implementing Dam Safety regulatory guidelines
  1. Eligible for membership with APEGA.
  2. Valid class 5 driver’s license or equivalent.

ABOUT YOUR WORK ENVIRONMENT: YOU WILL BE WORKING AT FIELD SITES LOCATED THROUGHOUT THE REGION AND IN AN OFFICE SETTING LOCATED IN CALGARY. EXTENSIVE TRAVEL AND OCCASIONAL OVERTIME AND OVERNIGHT STAYS WILL ALSO BE REQUIRED FOR THE POSITION. PERFORMING DUTIES ON A ROTATING 24/7 BASIS DURING FLOOD OR OTHER EMERGENCY EVENTS MAY BE REQUIRED.
