Description:

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, the Electrical Engineer will be responsible for supporting mining projects and assisting contractors in planning underground electrical work, as well as surface work related to underground projects. Based at the Windfall site, located in the Northern Quebec region, they will be required to work on a schedule of 15 days on followed by 13 days off. Transportation, accommodation, and meals will be provided.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hold a university degree in electrical engineering;
  • Be a member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ);
  • Have (3) to (5) years of relevant experience in electrical engineering;
  • Hold a valid Class 5 driver’s licence;
  • Hold an explosives licence;
  • Have an excellent command of the French language and good knowledge of English;
  • Have successfully completed mining modules 1-2-3-4-5 and 7 (an asset).

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Know the codes and regulations governing electrical work;
  • Have basic knowledge of instrumentation and control;
  • Master the Microsoft Office suite;
  • Very good knowledge of specialized software such as AutoCAD and ETAP, (an asset).

BASIC SKILLS

  • Be an excellent communicator;
  • Be an excellent team player, show tact and political acumen;
  • Be flexible and open to change and constructive feedback;
  • Have a good sense of organization and a good ability to recognize priorities;
  • Be autonomous, have initiative and be able to handle several files simultaneously;

Responsibilities:

  • Develop standards and procedures for electrical work;
  • Ensure the implementation and monitoring of the lockout program;
  • Review the electrical plans of the site and ensure that updates are made and communicated as soon as possible;
  • Ensure the integration of new facilities and identify future needs necessary to maintain and improve the electrical reliability of equipment through a preventive maintenance program;
  • Participate in the coordination of engineering work or projects necessary to maintain electrical installations;
  • Ensure the quality of the technical documentation of the assets;
  • Provide electrical references of new equipment to service and maintenance teams;
  • Coordinate and plan major electrical shutdowns to ensure the sustainability of electrical equipment;
  • Ensure the implementation and monitoring of Arcflash standards;
  • Plan and organize contractors’ work to develop the Windfall Lake project;
  • Act as the company’s representative on the site and ensure that all work is carried out according to the rules of the art;
  • Write daily progress reports as well as monthly reports and associated variances;
  • Make presentations , when required, to members of the Departmentor other stakeholders to monitor the progress of the work;
  • Ensure regulatory compliance of electrical installations ranging from energy production to distribution;
  • Ensure compliance with standards relating to occupational health and safety and accident prevention and put in place corrective measures when required;
  • Always adhere to workplace health and safety policies and regulations as well as environmental guidelines, and ensure that staff comply with these rules.
  • Perform any other duties related to the position of Electrical Engineer that is relevant to the success of the project.
