The Innovation Tax team work closely with a wide range of companies across a variety of sectors to assist them in delivering both robust and maximised Innovation Tax relief claims. In everything we do our aim is to deliver value add ideas and insights that unlock sustainable growth for our clients.
Your role as an Associate in the Innovation Tax team will bring you into close contact with businesses, dealing with everyone from CFOs, technicians and software developers across a wide variety of technical fields. Many of these will give you a clear, up-close view of how modern technology is rapidly advancing, whilst others that appear more standard on the surface may possess hidden innovation. As part of your role, you will apply your problem-solving skills to help our clients identify these areas of innovation.

A look into the role

As an Assistant within our Innovation Taxes, you will:

  • Liaise with our clients’ technical leads, developers, and architects, helping them to understand if, and to what degree, their project work qualifies as R&D.
  • Assist in translating client information obtained into accessible written narratives that describe the technical aspects of R&D, whilst also being easy to understand by someone not in the field of software.
  • You’ll have the opportunity to work closely with a wide variety of clients, taking responsibility for a number of tasks on behalf of the broader team and firm.
  • Analyse cost data from clients using tools such as Excel, Power Query and Power BI to determine which costs can be included within a client’s R&D claim and which cannot.
  • Be given a broad range of development opportunities and regular and supportive access to the team’s senior leadership.
  • There is no need to understand the definition of R&D, or how to apply it at this stage, as we’ll support you in developing these skills. Any previous knowledge and experience you may have with the R&D tax relief scheme would be considered a bonus.

Joining us as an Assistant, the minimum criteria you’ll need is a degree in a STEM subject and experience in the engineering sector. It would be great if you had some of the following skills, but don’t worry if you don’t tick every box, we’ll help you develop along the way.

  • Excellent written and spoken skills.
  • Exceptional listening skills, and ability to translate complex technical detail into descriptions understandable by non-IT specialists.
  • A willingness and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Good knowledge of Word and Excel.
