Description:
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., education, STEM, Indigenous Studies)
Experience:
- 1-2 years working with youth or education, with a focus on working with Indigenous communities.
Job Specific Knowledge & Skills:
- Intimate and working knowledge of the current structures of the Blackfoot People and other local Indigenous Peoples.
- Working knowledge of the Alberta K-12 Curriculum.
- Experience working with youth and adults in an educational capacity.
- High attention to detail and safety considerations when working with minors.
- Digital literacy, problem-solving, and adaptability are essential.
- Strong problem-solving skills, highly adaptable to changing schedules.
- Strong ability to relate and connect with Indigenous learners.
- Lived Experience: Indigenous identity or demonstrated experience navigating barriers faced by Indigenous communities is highly valued.
Additional Requirements:
- Standard First Aid and CPR.
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector clearance.
- A valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License with no more than 6 demerits and submission of a motor vehicle record (driver abstract) dated within 3 months of the posting close is required.
- Familiarity with Blackfoot or Indigenous languages (preferred).
Responsibilities:
- Community Engagement & Representation: Build authentic relationships with Indigenous communities, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers to ensure cultural protocols and Traditional Knowledge are respected in program design and delivery.
- Program Development & Delivery: Lead the creation, coordination, and evaluation of both on-campus and off-campus InSTEM programs, including camps, workshops, and land-based learning experiences, aligned with the Alberta K-12 curriculum and Truth and Reconciliation Calls to Action.
- Staff Supervision & Training: Train and mentor InSTEM and DE instructors, ensuring professional growth and effective delivery of culturally sensitive STEM programming.
- Promotion & Outreach: Develop promotional materials, manage partnerships with schools and community organizations, and collaborate with university departments to foster student engagement.
- Operational Management: Oversee logistics for all programs, including scheduling, registration, travel arrangements, and program statistics for reporting to funders and stakeholders
