Job Duties

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (QSA)

  • Building Systems Technician Certificate or Journeyperson Interprovincial Certificate in a building maintenance/construction trade; (Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Mechanic Journeyperson, Construction Electrician Journeyperson, Plumber Journeyperson is preferred) and a Fourth-Class Power Engineering Interprovincial Certificate.
  • Four years recent/relevant Building Systems graduate experience or two years recent/relevant post journeyperson experience in building systems maintenance and repair in commercial and industrial settings.
  • Current and qualifiable trade knowledge on modern building systems and technology (i.e. workshops attended).
  • Ability to function as a team member in an ever-changing environment.
  • Effective communication skills (written and oral).
  • Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Effective instructional skills.
  • Demonstrates valuing diversity.

Responsibilities:

JOB DUTIES

  1. Qualified applicants will be required to teach in the traditional areas of Power Engineering and instruction in the traditional areas of building systems, including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, waste management/recycling, water, energy management, and automation. Additionally, instructors will be expected to cover program specialty areas as determined by the current program requirements.
  2. Ability to provide instruction in boiler plant operation and demonstrate proficiency in project management related to shop maintenance.
  3. Ability to teach in other program areas is an asset.
  4. Manage his/her classroom/lab/activities to ensure an optimum learning environment for students.
  5. Follow any academic regulations and/or policies adopted by SaskPolytech and/or Saskatoon Campus.
  6. Accommodate students with special learning needs.
  7. Pursue professional development opportunities to keep current with industry and educational requirements.
  8. Practice good interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  9. Work cooperatively with program heads and colleagues in an interdependent “team” environment.
  10. Prepare and use appropriate delivery methods for instructing courses as assigned.
  11. Use appropriate methods of evaluating and recording student progress.
  12. Make necessary curriculum adjustments to course content.
  13. Attend staff, program and division meetings.
  14. Experience and ability to engage in Applied Research and grant funding opportunities.
